  • Can I post Craigslist, ebay & other ads on here?

Just wondering if I can post links to XS/XJ bikes & related items for sale any place on this message board. Nothing that I own, but stuff that I have run across that may be of interest to the membership.

For example, there is a XS1100E on my local Craigslist right now.

    Just curious.

    if I have to,
    I guess.

        Posting ads WHERE they belong!

        Hey Scott, and fellow Xsives.

I've lately seen a flurry of posts here about alerting folks to possible bargains and such on Ebay or Craigslist. I haven't done much about it because they weren't that numerous, but it's getting a bit out of hand!

I/we can appreciate folks desires to help out our fellow Xsives, but I think we might need to create a SINGLE THREAD or such for such alerts. Most folks know HOW to search Ebay, and so IF they are looking for stuff, they can go and look for it.

These alerts are beginning to look a lot like SPAM!!

Now if an Xsive is actually selling his/her bike/parts, then we would expect them to post in the FOR SALE FORUMS, that was why they were created. And folks have also posted about looking for parts in the WANTED Forums, and so IF you've read about some parts folks wanted, then found it during a search, feel free to post a reply in the WANTED FORUM for that person and their respective part!

I hope folks can understand what I/we're talking about and will take these points into consideration before posting!

TC, I understand your concern. A large Mopar site that I frequent went through the same problem before they decided to create a separate forum just for Mopar related items that were spotted on the internet, in print and on-the-side-of-the-road by the members. It has been in effect for a couple of months now and appears to be working well. In fact it appears that there are more C/L, auction sites, et al being linked in the new forum than there ever were in the General Forum. My guess is that since it was always frowned upon to post "Items found" threads, the mods did allow it to a point. But now that there is the new forum, more people may be feeling free to post what they have spotted that may be of use/help to other members instead of risking getting scolded by the mods and not posting at all. This might be an option when you make the transition over to the new message board.

Or a dedicated, continuous thread may work just as well.

I'd be all for a separate thread rather than a stickied thread. The same problem exists with the bike photos thread: it gets large and difficult to find individual posts.

If this idea comes to fruition, I think the postings on thethread should disappear after a certain period of time and not be archived at all. JMTC

                    Hi Guys,

I am a member of a couple of other forums who both run a seperate board called (something like!) "E-Bay Spotter". It has a seperate group of threads specifically to point out third-party sales to those who do not spend all of their time trawling the auction or advert sites.

A slightly different title could easily allow inclusion of Craigslist (and similar!) listings.

Perhaps an idea for inclusion on the next incarnation of this site?
