The 81' finally thought that I'd had enough and gave in. I have been working on her since May of 07'. And about the time that I was about to throw the towel in, my wife said "why don't you get on line and see if there isn't a site to find some help". I told her that I already had, I had gotten phone numbers from Hitachi, factory's that use to make the board in California and ALOT of other numbers. I talked to people that did not speak English, people that said "how did you get this number? Do not call it again I will call YOU back." Never herd a thing back. I spent several months every night calling, while trying to find another to replace my bad one, or have it repaired.
In the mean time I removed the circuit board and had it tested by a friend that took electronics in college. It came back good from him, but there were two things that he could not test because of his test instrument could not……Well I really don't remember why he couldn't, but I was sure that was the part that failed!

She found this site, filled out the needed info., and posted a thread asking for help on a 4r010 TCI. Without me knowing what was going on. I had no idea what a forum even was.
Within minutes she was reading me responses from the computer, as I was cooling off in the kitchen with a cold one. I told her that I know that it was bad, the TCI, and the things she was reading was of something that had happen to someone else, not knowing that she was really getting responses to her question real time. I thought that she was reading some of the same things that I had been already reading on some quick searches on the Internet. Not that she was getting actual responses. I set the cold one down and told her to move over "you don't know what you are doing." God I love her!

AND WITH ALL OF YOUR HELP IT NOW IS RUNNING!!!
I would have taken it for a ride, unlicensed, uninsured, hell probably even without a helmet, but am not able to at this time. Thanks all again, from one happy man!

Oh yes, I am really happy that I committed matrimony after 39 years of wishing I had not done it the first time. Now the weather is warming nicely, she tells me go for a ride, even tho she doesn't like to be alone. But she has the boy for company. I got to get the sidecar on.

Mine saved my life one evening after a heavy rain flooded the streets down here in New Orleans. The water was residing and I was sweeping the leaves that had washed up from the carport when four guys in a pickup, drinking beer came down the street and made a big wave that washed everything back up onto the carport. Of course my cajun temper took hold and I threw my broom like a spear and put a big dent in the side of this guy's new pickup truck. He stopped and the two in the bed got up to come over the side and I thought, I am going to get an A$% whipping now. Then all of a sudden they sat back down and the truck pulled away. I turned around and there was my Honey standing in the front door with my 12-gauge pointing at them.

Was your problem the TCI unit or something else? My XS1100 SG developed the classic pick up coil wire breakdown. By finding this forum, it saved me time, money, aggravation and the possibility of me ruining my beloved motorcycle. And yes, a good woman is often an overlooked blessing!!!

It was not the TCI. It was a couple mechanical problems.

Yes I am riding it. And it is running pretty darn good(thanks for all the help!).
Been out to Conneticut and all over Michigan on day trips. I have put about 4000 miles on it this season, but now it's boating season and she's stored away back (someplace???) deep in the garage.
No pictures...........not that advanced yet.
