I could wait no longer so I drove my son's car down to the SGI office and bought my bike's insurance sticker. Still below freezing the next morning but there were bargains to be had at Canadian Tire if I got there before all the loss leaders had been sold. Then on to the mall to run some other errands but the bike started to cough and spit so I tried to make it home instead. Almost made it, too. I only had to push the last 50 yards. OK, I knew it was low on gas but it couldn't be that making the bike act up because the red "low fuel" light hadn't come on. Back in my garage I took the tank off as a first move in diagnosing the problem. But that's all I had to do. The red light only works if it's plugged in, right? Turn the tap to RES and go pay $1.19 a liter for gas. Ouch!
