  • unidentified rolling bike!

Cruising along in my cage the other day I saw a bike that intrigued me. It was a thumper, but it wasn't British, nor was it a Yami SR5, or a Honda Ascot 500. I pulled up alongside and only had a few moments to engage the rider in conversation before the light changed. I caught that it was an '80's something 600 or 650 single Yamaha. I got the impression that it was the bike from which the BMW chain drive single and a couple of other bikes borrowed their engines.
As much as I love my XS11, I kinda dig thumpers. I've thought of getting one to putt around on while I strip down my XS for a facelift. So, my brothers and sisters: Name That Bike!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

I agree it would have to be the 1985 SRX600 if it was a single cylinder thumper.

        Thumper

My neighbor has a 500cc Yamaha thumper, with sidecar. I don't know what year it is.
