  • help finding a part for XS1100SG, '80

OK, I've been searching and searching many sites without any success. On my '80 XS1100SG, that plate mounted on the forks, just an inch or two below the headlight, it reads "Yamaha" and is chrome. It faces forward, again, just below the headlight and has the yellow reflectors on the sides.

Anyone have any suggestions where I can look for a replacement?

On my '80, it's very rusted, on my '81, totally clean. I don't get it.

I saw one on ebay but it was for a Midnight Express.

    Any suggestions?

Keep an eye on ebay. They show up alot. There is a guy on here that deals alot of used parts hand gets very good reviews from the members. His user name is andreashweiss, look in the members section for contact info.

"Midnight Express"...... I LIKE that, LOL.

I might get some sidepanel badges made up with that on 'em; I remember someone showing "Twilight Special" badges they had done..... I thought they were great!

        Hi DJ,
mine was kinda rusted too, then I had to cut it to fit Standard 'trees to my Special forks for sidecar use. Then I had to remove it entirely to install a semi-rotary hydraulic steering damper. Then to cover that up I had to make a new one and you can too. If you can't find a nice replacement piece, try this:- Salvage the plastic "Yamaha" badge. Make a new cover strip from 1/8" thick aluminum sheet, a simple hat-shape bent from a 2" wide strip will look OK, (note that mine had to arch out to clear where the damper sticks out but yours can be flat) then polish it up real shiny. A hat-shape from flat strip will obviously not fit over the fork tubes like the original did but it can be held by the lower triple-tree fork tube clamp bolts instead. Pop-rivet the plastic badge front & center and she's done.

          Emblem

          Don,
If you need the emblem itself it is available brand new. The first place that I looked (bikebandit.com) had it for $23.34 part #24631-001. If you need the outer cover, you might need to look for a used one as it seems to be discontinued. I would encourage you to check with andreashweiss like dpotter58 suggested. I just contacted him about some parts that I needed, and he is able to supply them. Plus, he shares our appreciation for these machines, has quick service, and prices are quite reasonable. I contacted him in the middle of the night on Sunday (actually I am sure it was Monday), and he is mailing them off tomorrow

I have the cover of which you speak. It is in good shape. Pm me with what you think is a fair price, and we can go from there.

Oops.....I didn't even catch that. I ran some boats in Florida manufactured by Midnight Express. So now, Midnight Special, Midnight Express, I can't keep them straight.
