The back rest was a throw on. I needed it for my son last year while trying to make it to john and wildcats for the meetings of the minds. It is off a xj 650 or 750 don't remember. Had to do alot of modifying. but it is real strong. Shorten the legs. Has to mill the backside and make the slot bigger to where it hooks at the shock. It didn't have a pad so I made my own. Used cheap leather that faded quickly. The width and all was ok. I have some close ups will post them later today.

The backrest and siderails look like what came on my XJ. The strength of it is pretty impressive. I built a back rack that attached to just the rails and back rest. I then strapped a loaded suitcase to it to where I could lean back on it, then loaded all my camping supplies and a full ice chest on the back rack. The backrest withstood all this weight on a long trip with Hobbyman last summer. Mine's the one on the left..

So... I would say that they are MORE than strong enough for anything you may need from them.

White frame, bone and skull handlebars. Welded chain for gear shifter. Nice stuff. A guy that lived down the street from me in TX did exactly that. Foot pegs were diamod shaped and the brake and gear shift were chain that was welded together. He had it chromed locally. It was pretty sweet.
