Thanks for insight re: winter.

I suspected as much, but was not sure.

Last week 3-19-08 I went riding with Maxim Phil of Toronto, Canada..,.'course we WERE riding in FL & south GA. OH! the Blooming azaleas, jonquils, dogwoods, pears and forsythia were beautiful. Glad that I brought my summer gloves. I will try to post pics & more on ride report site.

Spring time is here, arriving up north soon.

Thanks a pantload! 36 degrees here where I live in NH.

I look at the bright side, I still have a lot of work to do on my bikes. If it were nice and warm, I'd be going nuts with them not being ready for riding.

Papa Gino is right. The days get by quickly and the winds could change blowing warm air up from the Deep South. Get at least one bike ready. I have suffered from PMS, parked motorcycle syndrome, and Believe me. You do not want to be stuck on an early unXSpected warm beautiful day, watching your poser neighbor (who almost never rides) riding his Harley away, and keeping it up untill he is out of sight. The mere sound of it can haunt you. Get ready.

For additional motivation I offer a winter (sort of) riding story from GA. This afternoon, my wife looked out of the window and asked "what is THAT falling out of the sky?" I guessed it might be something blowing off of the roof (pinestraw, leaves, or blossoms from the flowering trees) and looked closely. Temps were in the 40-45 range, not close to freezing, But it was SNOW.
This was my chance for some winter riding! I would ride to pick up a helmet I had ordered. This would show the guys at the mc shop that I was a year round rider. Before I got going, in about 15 minutes, the sun came out, temps warmed to 48 and no more snow. When I got to MC shop a young fellow was there on a sport bike wearing a mesh jacket and blue jeans. No winter riding demo or brag for me today. Still it was a GREAT DAY.

Yes Winter can suck!

I have taken advantage of a couple of dry days and rode to work etc.
I love crossing the Narrows Bridge at 9 am when the temp is sitting at about 35 degrees, watching all the box drivers stare! Is it cold, hell yes! But that is why they invented cold weather gear!

I have logged a few hundred miles this winter.

This Saturday our club is taking some Partners kids (from single-parent, broken homes, or special needs) on a snowmobile ride / cookout out to Land's End on Grand Mesa. Yes, the low-land temps have been in the 50s and I've been riding on weekends (still below freezing in AM when I go to work) but I'll miss the snow. Been a good year for riding.

I've ridden snowmobiles since '67 or '68, about the same time I had my first motorcycle.

Yes, I know.....I am dreading one of those warm days when neither bike is ready. I have ordered a ton of parts to replace anything that might leave me stranded. My buddy in Maine has lined up a mechanic that is willing to work on these older bikes so we hope to get them over to him by next week.

Unfortunately, the guy I have doing my tanks and battery covers said he couldn't get to them right away. I figured no rush and told him to take his time. Now, I am wishing I found someone who could do them right away.

Still, I am not into the cold riding anymore. I have leg and feet injuries, severe nerve damage along with the rest, and the cold makes my leg and feet feel like they are soaking in ice water. No fun in that!

Winter sucks, Summer's too short, and I cant get SWMBO to move to Georgia. Ho hum...

If they ever build a bridge to the Bahamas Im there man. Meantime, I curse every snowfall and cherish every day the temp is above 40f. The only thing winter is good for is rebuilding my XS cuz I cant ride it anyhow. I spose if I could ride all year long it'd never get done. I'd always be riding it!

I Think you should know ....

The weather man is calling for a warm week with 18 as the sunny high for Thursday :-) So I guess I best finish my spring prep today even if the garage is on the cool side. Looks like Thursday will likely be my first ride of the season :-)

Finally got the backyard rink pulled down this weekend. Still have snow in the backyard. Might try to get out at end of week, depends if the street sweepers want to get out and get rid of the alluvium at every intersection and corner. I think our city went over budget on their sand spreading!

At least they sweep, here in Ohio, we still have to watch for crap left over from the plows and the pot hole detritus.

Pot holes, that's another topic. There is one on I-675 that is at least 4 inches deep, 4 feet long and about 8 inches wide. It's been there for three weeks at least. I spotted it from the truck so I am careful to be properly positioned when I ride.

Last week, I was trucking home from Lowes and got passed by a moron on a 'Busa doing at least 110 in that very spot, I gringed thinking about how Darwin could take his revenge if that dummy hit that hole...
