    Why Ride?

I have often been asked why I fly, or ride, or sail small boats in big oceans. I never have had a ready answer, though I know there is one.

The folks asking are the same people that are asking if the cost of the space program (in people and dollars) is worth it. In short, Why Fly?

My answer is at the link. No ads, no popups. It's a poem again . . . sorry. Comments?

      Why fly?

      Why ride a motorcycle?

      Why race?

      Why set endurance records?

My take...we get bored without a challenge. It might be space flight. It may be challenging another country in war. It might be discovering a cure for cancer. Whatever it is, a challenge creates passion, and for all our talk of civility and reason, at our core we are a passionate species.

We fly, and will continue to fly, because we are passionate about flying.
