SWMBO has 2 Tats. I havent gone there... yet.
I had my ear pierced when I was 21 (a long time ago). But im in my 40's now, and im with TC, I have been thinking about getting a tat. And, I too, have a mom that would not be pleased, but I havent obeyed her since I was 16.

      Tastes change

      Hi TC,
at age 50 your tastes in artwork are pretty much settled and your skin has sagged about as much as it's gonna so what you choose for a tattoo you will still be happy with in the future and it won't sag out of shape too badly as the years go by.
Alas for my buddy Stan, stuck with going out with girls called Elaine because of the heart on his forearm with his ex's name in it. And my elder boy, with a cartoon Venus Flytrap in a pot on his shoulder. OK when you are 20 but his tastes are gonna mature over the years. My younger boy's shoulder sports a traditional Maori motif which will be OK I guess.
And don't believe those "they can be removed these days" posts. Yes they can but it costs more and hurts more than getting them put on and there's always a mark left to show you chickened out.

I'm sure I've told this story here before, but as it's appropriate to the subject (and the fact that I like this story), I'll re-hash it.

When I came home after my first year of college, looking to explore my independence, I announced that I wanted to get either a tattoo or a motorcycle. My mom, worried that bikes were too dangerous in general (and probably knowing how I liked to push limits), looked me in the eye, and with utmost sincerity said "Erik, please get a tattoo."

I still don't have any tats, but there are currently five bikes living in my garage. I think I made the right choice.

I've never personally been a huge fan of tatoos. I couple times I thought about it and there's one design that I'm still seriously considering having done. This
http://www.adoliver.com/graphics/nature.png was my own creation and I've been considering eventually adopting it as a family crest as mine has none.

When I was interested in getting one I found a place that did henna tatoos. You can get them where they will last several weeks before starting to fade. It's at least a decent test-run for your design. It'll also give you an idea of how difficult it will be for the artist to match your vision.

The biggest concern I would have is the skill of the artist. Please make sure you look at their work closely. That would be my biggest concern for regret; for example, in the previous post of the woman's face, her eyes are crooked. I am artistic enough to notice so that part of it has really always been my biggest concern, trusting another with something permanent.

paraphrase: 25 years later "conan the barbarian" is out of date
I'm only 23 and I know Conan. 'course you might of been talking about the massive biceps, in which case he's a bit outta luck. Guess the tat wasn't enough incentive.

I have two tats, one on each arm and have no regrets.
