    For anyone who might be interested, MCM Electronics (www.mceelectronics.com) has a Raytek portable infrared thermometer on sale @ $29.95. List $79.95. Item 58-12050. Web site shows a price of $31.95, but catalog I just received has the lower price good through March 15, 2008.

      I have one of those, cept I paid about 90 bucks for it from the tool truck. Good product and pretty accurate.
      I use it to test engine temps, exhaust temps (better than the old touch the pipe with the fingers, to see which cylinder is not working trick) and brake rotor temps (to see if the brakes are dragging) dragging = friction = HOT!.
      And let's not forget the fun we have with the laser beam = targeting unsuspecting coworkers across the shop

      Only weird thing about this tool, is when you point it at chrome surfaces, it gives a false reading, like it's far cooler than it really is.
