I had a prof up at school who grew up in the UP (Michigan's upper peninsula) so he was used to snow. In his younger days, he worked in Dallas, TX in a highrise office building. He got a kick out of standing at the window overlooking the streets anytime it snowed, and just watching the cars slide through the intersections. He said there were some pretty big pileups.

Word of advice to anyone who's not used to driving in snow: There are only two things you can't do while driving in snow or on ice.... they are stop and turn.
    -Do what makes you happy.

I see people in jeans. Were they seriously riding in jeans in this weather?

          I was...

Of course, in the photo, I am wearing my one piece rainsuit. This picture was taken Sunday Just after we left a restaurant for Breakfast, so they are not yet dressed for the highway. Most were wearing at least chaps, if not rainsuits

          Christine is wearing jeans, though.

That rally was in September, still summer for us. They were expecting 250+ bikes/bikers but only got what you see to show up. (around 75 if I remember)

It was actually really great, as they had more prizes than riders so everyone who showed up won something. Christine won a leather coat (of her choice) and I won a security system for the bike. I also got a trophy (extraordinary effort award) for pulling my 28cuft trailer all through the weekend.

Jorges, the founder of Cycel Canada gave Christine, and me, his cabin in Mt Robson for Friday because he didn't want us to ride back to Jasper, in the blizzard at night. Two other couples insisted on going back because they had parked thier camping gear, in a campsite at Jasper, and did not want to leave it unattended all night.

Jorges insisted on escorting them and used a bike borrowed from a bike shop, in Calgary, to follow them. Part way back they were repaving, and in the dark and snow, he didn't see the edge where the pavement digester had removed one lane, hit it and layed the bike down at about 40mph. He was not seriously injured and the bike was more embarrassed than bent.

One of the guys in the photo, not sure which, was part of a 3 man team than rode Hardley Davisons across Canada, to every major city, in Jan-March in the late 70's to test the 'new' belt-drive system in our balmy Canuck winter.

Many of the rest are representatives of some of the biggest, and oldest, motorcycle shops in Canada.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

            Cary, IL

            Chip,

I spent a good deal of my life in that area. I moved to that area in , I believe, 1980. I finally wised up and moved to Cheeseland in 1999. Both my wife and I still have alot of family and friends in the area. Perhaps, we can meet up for a ride this summer
