  • The Swiftcicle turns 30

According to the compliance plate, the Swiftcicle turns 30 sometime this month. Only the month and year are engraved on the plate so I'm not sure of his actual birthday but the boys at the Ulysses club tell me it's eligible for club plates. I'm going to keep it registered for every day use though. The VIN No is 2H9100573.

Am I the first to own a 'Vintage' XS11 in the group?

One other thing, the compulsory third party insurance (personal injury of others) is now AU$688 so it now costs almost a grand a year to register him. The RTA say it's because of it's age. I tell them the motor has been re built and runs as clean or cleaner than anything new on the road. Dosen't matter, it's old, get it off the road.

    I ride and I vote.

    Happy birthday!

get it off the road at 30?
I've seen a few drivers that should have been off the road well before that age... and a few more that were off the road at that age... in a ditch... against a pole... or another car...

As for the exact date... no matter... just celebrate the entire month... You'll be right at least once...

Congrats on your machine making 30!!!My Madmax is 26 and my "new"addition an 81 XS11SH is 27 yrs old!As to the question of you being the first to gain "Vintage" noteriety...couldn't answer that one...If I am not mistaken here in the USA most states consider vintage at 25 yrs..of age.Actually I know for vintage/antique cars it is 25 years or greater...I am assuming the same for Motorcycles...I'm sure there are some others who will chime in to set the record straight.... BTW whenever I know a date like you have stated without knowing the exact day... my rule is to take the day that is as close to the middle of that particular month..and establish that as the birthdate...just my .02 cents worth here...

        The 15th it is!

The 15th is as good as any day I guess when you're talking 30 years! I like kat's idea of celebrating the whole month though, gives me an excuse to drink xsively and wear funny hats because normally I don't have an excuse.

I wish you lot could come for a ride on him, he's so much more 'smoothly' powerful now that the big bore kit is in. He sounds great as you power on through the gears at all rev ranges, I can lift the front wheel going from second to third with no real effort.

Here in Oz, once your machine (car or bike) reaches 30 years of age and you are in a classic vehicle club you can run club plates which is a mere fraction of normal registration costs but you're limited to club rides and trips to the mechanic/Motor Registry.

I might join the Ulysses club though, you have to be at least 50 to join and their patch reads "Grow Old Disgracefully" I actually bought the Swiftcicle from one of their members who had a mild stroke and lost his sense of balance. He now rides a Goldwing trike which set him back 65 grand and it looks like every cent of it.

I can't imagine myself riding anything else now. Nothing seems to have the whole package the XS1100 delivers. I just love the old boy.

I would argue that one to no end with the insurance company. Your bike, regardless of it's age, MUST pass the same safety inspection as any other bike on the road. Have a safety inspection done to prove it and if they don't back off .. .start looking for a different insurance company.

That's interesting Dan. Mine doesn't have it's birthday till next month (2/78) yet the VIN number is less than yours. 2H9100411.

            Surely manufacture was sequential??

And you live in the wrong state as well. I registered both my XS11's for less than that. )One was 195 and the other was 205 per year.

                  Uhh, Dan...

That's 'HER', not his ... and 'SHE' not he! as in 'her actual birthday' and 'she's much more smoothly'

Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, boats, etc.) are always referred to as the female gender... that's why they always give us problems.

Oh, oh... did I say that No... couldn't have been me... I wouldn't do something like that.

The devil made me do it ... that's it ! Diablo made me do it.

OK, seems the only thing I know for sure is the compliance plate on my bike is 30. Goodness only knows how old the bike is. My parts bike which I got at the same time has no compliance plate at all. Wouldn't mind betting there has been a switcheroo somewhere along the road.
