  • old non-xs bike

    http://www.realclassic.co.uk/kawa03110100.html

Was looking around the different threads and came across some discussion of what other makes of bike we had / rode. Then I found this article - mine was Red and I loved it, they were everything the XS is and if I were to get a second ride - this would be it if I could find one.

Hmmmm............those that rode the touring model back in the day when my XS was new used to tell me at gas stations that engine was smooth but the heat on the outer two cyl. made things very hot on the shins touring long distances.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

don't get me wrong - she was a pig, in a whole bunch of ways but I just loved the size, the power, just the feel of her and the way she rode. Pretty much the same reasons I like my XS - don't have a name for her yet

Never had one, but I wanted one. So I bought this '84 DFI in France. Do not know if the fuel injected ones were available in the US? Later I added a Swiss '86 to that. These dfi's are turning into collectibles very rapidly..

Nice to see the bloke that did the Real Classics write up liked the XS1100 more

Would I buy another one? No, I replaced her in my heart with, what was for me, one of the finest dinosaurs to come from Japan, the inimitable Yamaha 1.1S. This black custom version of the XS1100 did everything better than the Kawasaki by a country mile. THIS bike I'd buy like a shot if I could find one in prime condition. The Z1300, king of all it surveyed in the manner of Arthur, was de-throned for me by the Lancelot style and performance of the XS1.1.
