I only own 1 little .22 bolt action rifle. Except for gun restriction, I am as lefty as you can get. I did want to point out that the Bill of Rights does not have anything to do with hunting, and personal protection in only the broadest sense. It is meant to insure that the U.S. Government can be overthrown by it's citizens WHEN not IF it stops representing the "people". The writers were extremely worried about state run militia as well. So do not fall for that argument either. Thomas Jefferson wrote several times that the government should be overthown at least once a decade just to keep'em honest.
What I find interesting is the # of people posting replies not caring about being anonymous!
Have just an old .22 cal semi-auto target rifle, but also have the home protection unit....used Police .357 magnum with hollow points! No kids!
I only earned a Marksman badge with a service .45 cal auto while in Japan. My mom has a .22 cal with hollowpoints that she sleeps with under her pillow, and proudly displays her target practice sillouettes in her window!
I had fun with my previous Rottweiler....she was a loving creature, but still protective. I put her thru obedience training, and would walk the neighborhood with her. There would be a crowd of kids across the street as I would walk up to the curb with her on leash! I would command "wait", DROP the leash, and walk across the street never looking back. After I had crossed and gone a few yards farther....close to where the kids were, I would turn, and then command her to "come". She would take off in a run...but had a little trouble slowing down by the time she would get to me and would run past me a few paces....just enough to cause the kids to scatter! Then she would return to my side! I'd pick up her leash and continue around the block back home!
Word must have gotten around that she was ATTACK TRAINED! She wasn't, but I wasn't going to tell!

I have enough guns and bullets to start a war, short if by numbers ,, and Yes they will pry them away from cooling fingers (all rooms of three bedroom house when the my two girls are gone) Kurt.
I have a couple dozen rifles and pistols of varying types. Even have my own private little range in the backyard.....though I use it so infrequently lately. Always dreamed of competing in IDPA or something similar. Maybe one day...
My backstop started life as 2 rows of new 10' railroad ties and 3 layers of 3" thick recycled tire rubber plates. I'ts but a shadow of it's former self. Shot it all to pieces over the course of 3 years. At my peak I was putting 15-20,000 rounds a year into it. It needs much love.
These days I empty and recycle my carry pistol ammo every 3 months or so, and may go out and empty a few mags in the larger pistols from time to time. Sadly, that's about it. I can rememeber many days sitting out there with the AK and 300+ rounds trying to shoot the heads off of action figures. Ah, good times...
I'm not worried about anonymity either. Let someone try to come and take them from me (including the government!). I've got a better security system than many banks (It's what I do). And if I happen to be at home.....well, the penalty for unauthorized entry is death.
Who knows, my two 80-lb morons commonly known as dogs might even put up a fight, though I wonder about them sometiemes.
As far as I'm concerned, if you don't have the right to self defense you have no rights at all. We will cease to be a free society if we ever lose that basic right.

For the moment I keep it loaded with 6's for a lower recoil and a broader spread, mostly a noise maker out side/ at any distance, but enough to kill up close/ in my house.
I also have an old shell press that I intend to learn how to use.
The Woman has a Cobra 380 auto and a small .22 pistol. I'm lookin forward to the purchase of a side arm for myself, try as I may I just can't get the 12 gauge to fit in my boot.
We live on the edge of a not so good part of town.
We also have 4 pitbulls, which pretty much helps to keep crime away.
I just can't believe how many wimpy people there are who believe they need to be more heavily armed than thier local militia, just to feel safe in their own homes...
Hi GNEPIG,
that thing is what I had in mind as suitable for close range indoor work but if you really want proper respect from your neighbors in . . . umm the not so good part of town, don't rely on the classic ratchety noise a pump makes when chambering a round but let it be known you have one of these:- http://www.camo-store.com/auto_assau...at_shotgun.htm

Hi GNEPIG,
and that's a good thing. Consider what would happen if a shotgun would fit in your boot and if it went off.
GNEPIG no more, we'd be getting posts from Limpy or Hoppy or Footloose asking on how to sidecarize his XS11 because he couldn't hold it up at stopsigns no more.
And sidecar enthusiast though I am, considering the circumstances, that wouldn't be a good thing.
