  • How many guns do you own? POLL

I seem to find a correlation between riders and freedom. Generally bikers wear helmets but hate helemt laws. I think that is becuase most of us (not all) are freedom lovers and don;t want the government dictating our every move.

I also see same correlation between the number of bies a man owns and the number of firearms. Call me nuts but lets see. I'll post a poll so it keeps you gun ownership anonymous.

BTW - I own three bikes and VAULT full of firearms.

You left out a choice, Cody

Those of us who, personally, don't own one... but don't have a problem with anyone else having one... as long as they are responsible...

and no correlation between the number of bikes and the number of guns at our house... We have what? 5 complete (or almost complete) bikes and numerous others in pieces and parts...

I guess I'm a little out of balance. I have one running bike, one to work on, and three I'm going to try and sell, all Kaws. I only have two firearms, a rifle and a pistol, but they are BOTH target firearms, and I DO know how to use them. Something about being #1 in the battalion with an M16 back in the '70s....

I'm with Wildkat. I used to have a 303 British, left over from WWI. With the new gun registratioin laws here, I gave it to my dad.

I have no problem with guns, in and of themselves, but I don't understand the need to have a pile of them around the house.

              Extremist!

              Hi Maximan,
your poll is set up to say "either I own a firearm or I am a snivelling wimp"
This says more about your own prejudices than perhaps you realize.
When I lived in the country and was an active hunter I owned a 30-06 BSA bolt action, a 12ga Browning pump and a .22 Anschutz bolt action.
When I moved to the big city and gave up hunting because of that, I was left with a glass-fronted gun cabinet full of unused firearms. This left me with two options, buy a steel gun safe or sell off my hunting firearms. So Ernie's gunshop recycled my firearms to those who could use them and I have a nice glass-fronted display cabinet.
As to the unstated "home defense weapon" argument, according to a thing I read in a shooters magazine, the scariest thing for a burglar to meet is an angry naked man brandishing a golf club.

                I'm with Fred...

I used to have a glass fronted cabinet with
                2-12ga
                1-20ga
                1-antique16ga
                1-410ga
                1-22 rifle with scope
                2- ruger 22 target pistols

All hunting or target. When I got married and had a kid, I found I was more worried about having them around. The guncase was finally sold, and I did not hunt so much anymore, so I sold some, and stashed the rest.

I kept the Remmington 1100 12ga, the 22 rifle, and the 410 (my first gun of my own.) and one of the pistols (which has a long cyl in it with hollowpoints just for unwelcome visitors.)

I have no problem with gun ownership but do believe that some guns should be reserved for the military and/law enforcement.

Counting a couple muzzle loaders.. somewhere probably around an even dozen. A couple 30.06's and the muzzle loaders for hunting with the boys. A couple 12 ga shotguns for the same reason, and a few 22's for plinking. Also a 9mm pistol so I don't have to get as close as a golf club.... but truthfully, a burgler would probably be met with the ol' shotgun. Aim doesn't have to be as close when scared, and you won't be sued by him later for just wounding him. Plus.. it may go through a wall or two, but not the neighbors' houses.

I was sitting here thinking that if I didn't own any, I probably wouldn't state so on a public forum.. but I guess it's just as bad to advertise that you have some that can be stolen. They just better hope no one is home....

I have enough that when I talk about how many I have most people think I'm whacked.

On the other hand I have about 6 plastic tubs of reloading supplies and equipment. This includes 2 presses for metallic cartridges and 2 more shotgun presses.

I dont agree my friend. I dont see where you get the 'snivelling whimp' from. To each his own. The first option is a bit generalizing as most non-gun owners are also anti-gun, but certainly not all.

Wow, what shooters magazine was that!? That might be scarry to a some teen boy who snuck into a daughters bedroom. But to a home invader?, no way. Home defense weapons are for use against a real life and limb threat. A person prepared to invade your home without malice, and injure or kill your family and with his own firearm. You can try the golf club if you like, I'll stick with my .12 gauge, .45, or whatever I happen to have close by.

I'd say the scariest thing for a burglar is to meet is an angry naked man pulling back on his .12 gauge semi-auto browning A-5 full choke with 00 buck shot. ~bang~

I stopped getting unexpected visitors, salesmen, religious folks etc., when the dog topped the 200 lb mark. The firearms are just backup.

                            Depends on the dog

                            Hi Meatloaf,
big dogs can be scary but they have no discrimination. "Hey Fido, give the postman his leg back" kinda thing. I'd say my own Husky-Shepherd cross is only a 60lb medium dog but her teeth are big enough to do serious harm. Regretfully any stranger can buy her complete adoration just by offering her a porkchop.
                            And Wayne,
the Browning is too long for quick target acquisition in close quarters like a staircase plus full choke and 00Buck gives you very little pattern spread up close, as well use a slug. If I must use a firearm I'd say a Winchester Defender or similar firing #2 or #4 magnum would be better for that.

My dog's all show and no go which is exactly what I'm looking for. He's an English Mastiff. Scary looking as hell, with a bark that generates a pressure wave that you can feel...and he's afraid of squirrels, large cats, pretty much everything.

Most folk just see the barking dinosaur in the yard and take our house off the mental checklist. If they aren't fooled and come in with bad intentions and the dog runs away (which...sigh...he will) well then there are other ways to deal with them.

Ou in the country we always had problems with stuff disappearing from the yard. Since I began keeping and showing many years ago that has stopped. The giant breeds are generally less aggressive (there are always exceptions) and you get the visual deterrent without the inherent risk or liability issues with a traditional guarding/personal protection breed.

The way I look at it, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If only we could do something about the farting...
