Why are some people so stupid?? I parked my bike in the parking lot like I always do. Since I teach high school band, we have practice after school. After that was over, a few of my students came running to me telling me that someone ran over my bike!!!!!!. As I was walking (running) to the parking lot, a woman corrections officer met me and said she backed into my bike and knocked it over. She said she would pay for any damage. I agreed to that. The damage is a bent front brake handle and scuff marks on the foot pegs and a broken visor on my helmet. Not too bad. Here's the clincher. After she left, my students who saw it happen said that she was not driving the car and was not even in it at the time but her 12 year old son got behind the wheel and backed into the bike. I have reported this to the police and am waiting for her to contact me. How can people be sooooooo stupid.

Some think the law is just for others and does not apply to them.
I can see there point, just observe our elected officals

depending on the estate structure, that lot could be private property, not public, or their defense maybe it is not a public highway or roadway, a 12 year old could be in a car and operating it, i could be wrong of course...
bad:
your bike took a hit, i would not want that for anyone.
good:
they took responsibility, and you weren't on it.
don't forget to add your time a labor to the damages"a good man knows his limitations" dirty harry

Our officials have apparently legislated intelligence and common sense right out of society. It is now believed that the common person lacks any ability to think for themselves and as such must be protected by the enactment of a plethora of laws. That is why companies can be succesfully sued for serving coffee that is too hot.
I have also read, recently, that there is a push on to make back up cameras mandatory in all new suv's and pickups since too many people are backing over their own children. What ever happened to the local laws that say you are not supposed to back ouot of your driveway? I also read about a decision to attempt to legislate the type of motorcycles some people can own. The writer was saying that for a mere $14000 a kid can out and buy a bike than can blow away a $90,000 sports car! I quess someone who has 90,000 to blow on car is considered a skilled driver wereas someone buying a 14000 bike is not? I have yet to read any articles concerning highway safety where a strategy of better driver training is discussed as an alternative to the every increasing idiot safety devices they want the manufacturers to devise and install.
In my opinion everyone should have to ride a motorcycle through congested city streets as a prerequisite to obtaining a automobile driver's licence.
Sorry about the rant, just needed to blow off some steam.Ernie

Hi Dad,
a mother's instinct to protect her child trumps rational thinking or even correction officer's training. Unless you got your cash settlement from mom before you ratted her out I doubt you'll get anything short of a civil suit because I'd bet sonny was not insured. Two ways
"How are you supposed to get out of your driveway? Mine's not a turn-around."
Hi Pat,
You build yourself a giant carousel in your driveway to give your vehicle a 180º turn so it can be driven out frontwards.
Or, just maybe, you could back into it?Fred Hill, S'toon

And as a Mom...
if it had been one of my kids... they'd have to worry a LOT more about what I was going to do to them than what the authorities were going to do... Protecting them is one thing... teaching them responsibility for their actions is something completely different....81 SH Something Special

I have deduced that most people are born stupid, and never grow out of it.
Agree! The unfortunate part is that their numbers are growing and the degree is higher.
You Back Into It...." Which is why people keep running over their own kids............
Backing in is much easier and much safer than backing a vehicle out. People don't run over their kids when backing in, it's almost exclusively when backing out and, in some cases, driving in.1980 XS11 LG (Diablo)

WHEW!!!
I saw this "Stupidity" posting and thought for sure you all were talking about me!
Sorry to hear about your bike. With other recent postings... glad you weren't on it. It's your baby, bit it can be fixed. It doesn't sound like a lot of damage was done, so that's good.
