I'm sure everyone knows to watch for this... but had a pretty close call today. Kind of a wreck, but a save!? lol. We got our first rain in many weeks today, and it had just started to sprinkle when I was headed back to work from lunch. I was doing maybe 45 when I went to turn right onto a cloverleaf taking me from one highway, back and around to another. I leaned right going into the turn and bumped the front brake lightly so I didn't go into the curve with too much speed. So I was leaning right when the front tire took off to the left like I'd hit ice! Dirtbike days kicked in I guess and down comes the right boot onto the road. So left foot on footpeg and right foot on slick road sliding down the road and pulling like @$&* on the handlebars. Got the front tire back up enough for it to go back online finally and didn't do anything to the bike but a millisecond of scrape to the right footpeg... and take a year's worth of tread off my work boot! We won't mention the little bite mark out of the center of my new seat cover from the nether-regions puckering up! lol. I just got this motor going good and that would have slid on it's side right into a curb... no crash bars. I woulda been a cussin'!!

I was thinking how lucky I was that it was slick enough for my boot to slide instead of grabbing... but then I guess I wouldn't have been in that predicament if it WASN'T that slick! lol.

Be careful in the rain.. but be REALLY careful when it first starts.

Good Save ... The first 1/2 hour of light rain after a dry spell makes road surfaces unpredictable and VERY dangerous in deed for motorcycles. I can't tell how many times my car has gone for a slide on freshly wet roads..

See!! And Wildkat used to get onto me and Hobbyman for dragging our feet and standing and sliding with both feet while riding when it's wet. I was just practicing for an occasion like this!

Yes, it's the very first layer of water, that mixes with all the dirt and oil and what not, that makes a really slick surface.

I can't recall ever having my CAR slide around though! Actually, have been lucky enough to not slide on the bikes, either, come to think of it.

My company car is a standard Neon with standard tires and I have had a few slides without even making driver errors. Just coming to a normal stop from normal posted speeds and she slides. Doesn't happen with the winter tires on.

Strangely enough, I drive a 2005 Dodge SX 2.0 (Canadian Neon)

But I mean I haven't had occassion to slip like that on any of the dozen or so cars I've owned over the years. Not my VW Beetles at over 100mph, or my '71 Pontiac SW at over 140mph, or my Ford Escort at 110mph, or my 500+hp Monte Carlo. (unless I make it spin)

I think though, it's a difference in the road surface itself. Perhaps they use a different surface in your neck of the woods.

Until last winter, I've never owned 'winter' tires. I got a pair of Blizzaks from a freind who sold his Neon.

The way I "Southern Engineered" and welded up a bracket & mounts for my fairing, it is using one of the mount points that the crash bars need. I have a set, I just can't put them on while I have the fairing mounted like this.

As far as I can see, my case guard would have no problem with your mount. It mounts to the top bolt, where your mount is, but the guard itself is above that hole with the bracket coming down to bolt onto those two bolts in the frame.

Up here we do have winter tires for bicycles. It's called aluminum aircraft screws throught the front tire.

Rain

Last Friday I got caught having to ride home in the rain.... from work.
I followed all the best advice I remembered, like riding in the track of the car in front of you so the puddles are cleared, etc. But I was making a right turn onto this road when out of nowhere this guy who was making a U-turn appears 8' from my left shoulder. I see him rear up inside his car and attempt to brake, and I just hammered it around the bend to get away. Well it worked but my seat had a pucker mark that only a heat gun could pave. Problem was that I was wearing a helmet with a dark visor and this was at dusk with a hellatious thunderstorm going on so light was a premium. All I could do to se was turn my head sideways traveling at about 45 so the wind would clear the raindrops from the visor. It was scary.
BTW - Don't cross RR tracks at a 45 degree angle when they're wet, your rear end will swing out like a... well you can qualify that.

Hey Trbig

If you engineered the fairing bracket, couldn't you alter it slightly so your crash bars would fit.

It looks like you'd only need to put your fairing bracket in the tube bender to kink it forward to go in front of your crash bars.
