  • Weekend Cruise...

    Well..

Just got back from cruising all around the ride area in Talihina OK... everything looked good. We cruised over to Hot Springs Arkansas for the night and they were having a big bike rally. There were thousands of bikes... but I never saw an XS/XJ of any size or year. *Sigh. I saw two old KZ's of about the same year as my bike, but the lack of showing for Yamaha was obvious. What WAS impressive though was the number of Boss Hoss bikes that were there in different setups. Most were with the 350ci, but this guy said he had a specially designed 463 or something... never had heard of the size before..

Here were a few of the others...

This was the only one of the BIG ones I saw... this was the 502ci motor with a snakeskin seat

And this.... well.. this guy is just plain crazy if you ask me. This is a 305ci, 4 bbl, straight header toy that might be someone like Mario Andretti's wheel chair?? lol.. I bet it corners really well.. *Rolling eyes.

Anyway.. the route seems good and clear. Hope to see everyone in a few weeks at the Talimena Rally.

I got stuck behind so many weekend warriors.... the speed limit was 55 most of the time on the roads I was on, and the HD's were cruising their usual 45.. ya know.. which is kinda cool if it's just cruising. But I got behind so many wobbley riders that you could tell had never been out of their driveways before... and on curves that had 45mph warnings.. (you know.. the ones we easily take at 70...) they would slow down and shimmy and shake around them at 30mph. I was getting road rage so bad by the time I pulled into Hot Springs. They just didn't give a crap who was on the road with them or how many dozens of cars were lined up behind them, they wouldn't move over or wave a single one by.

If they want to go for a leisurely cruise, that's fine by me, but there's others that aren't out for that and want to at LEAST go the speed limit. When someone gets behind me, it makes me nervous and I wave them by. That's all I need is for some cager to be talking on a cell phone and try to run their bumper up my a@@ not paying attention!!

Anyway.. just the lack of consideration to others had me steamed up pretty bad. I try not to let my riding affect others.

    Through venting now... lol

You are not alone in not wanting to follow some of these guys. Watching them corner scares the crap outta me and spoils my cornering fun. And no they never flag you past here either but when they ride that badly I don't wanna get too close.

Agree, I don't want to get too close either.. on the other hand, I want to get as far away from them as I can. Staying behind these types can be dangerous, as their lack of self confidence in their riding abilities is simply 'an accident waiting to happen'! And, I for one, don't want to be around - especially behind them - when that happens!!!

            Hopefully...

they will be behind us when we ride out that way... and they probably didn't wave you around... because they were too s-s-scared to let go...
(ahem... I used to take curves like that... now I give it throttle where I used to brake... MUCH more fun this way)

Gee, is the fan on the back to cool or propel?
            Ummmm... yes?

Gosh... I'd think the seat on that thing would get a little on the warm side... Is that what they mean by being in the hot seat?

Reading this post, it appears that I was on the bike, but I was in our car. I agree with trying to be behind them... just waiting for one to go down. Plus.. I wanted to at LEAST go the speed limit! They'd have a dozen or so all sprawled out. Not enough room to pass them all, so you get 6 or 8 and then have to ease in to their convoy. When I would ease back into the lane after passing, the guy directly behind me would surge forward and close the gap and try not to let me in. I'd just laugh and keep easing into the lane. Even though a hog takes up half the lane... it's still no match against a car! So they apparently didn't care who was behind them... they didn't want anyone to pass either. This mentality makes you wonder why a lot of the general public hates bikers?? Or maybe not?
