  • The Swiftcicle Lives!

Well gang at long last the Swiftcicle lives!!!

After almost three frustrating months it's finally running. All I wanted to do was fix an oil leak.

I ended up rebuilding the top end, getting the head serviced, fitting new idle mixture screws, getting my old four into one's sandblasted, having all the holes I then discovered welded up and painted it red.

Now the thing runs so smoothly it's hard to describe. There's so much compression that a fully charged battery has trouble turning it over. The Iridium plugs compliment the Wiseco big bore kit and even though the rings, pistons and cylinders are new there wasn't a puff of smoke.

I'm running single weight oil for the first 500kms while I run it in.

I'm just curing the high temp paint on the headers then I'm off for my first ride in ages, just a couple of k's or so to get the feel of it.

I'm so happy I could burst.

Thanks to my newest best friend Pete who was with me every step of the way and thanks also to TC and all the others who helped advice.

Soon as I have a ride, I'll add some more but I'm just so happy I had to getr this down now.

    Vrooommmm......

Painted it red, eh? So, where's the pics? Without pics, how are we to know that you've truly done anything these last three months but drink beer and post a bunch of notes trying to fluff your way to guru status?

      pics

Well I'm at my brother's place now after my first ride and let me just say OH MY DEAR SWEET GOD ON HIGH IN HEAVEN WITH HOLY COWS AND BLOODY HELL AND SWEAR WORDS!

The thing screams, it just screams. I'm running it in so I took it steady. I was at a set of lights and realised I was in the wrong lane so I gave it half a fistful and.....the front wheel parted company with the road!!!!

Pete will take some pics and post them soon....

I have to go, my nephew has arrived with beer.

      love to all

      sh!t it quick!!!!

          Hey Dan/Stralya,

That's awesome! Yeah, it screams almost as much as it's owner!

Just wanted to comment though about what you stated above. During the run in process, you'll want to actually do more of a variety of rpms vs. holding a steady rpm. The thing is to not put too much of a throttle load on it during the early stages. Just wanted to mention this before you put those several Kmiles..possibly lots of highway steady rpm miles on it before it's really broken in!

Now, some folks will say....drive it now like how you will drive it once it's broken in, but I think that can cause undesired premature wear on the rings/cylinder walls possibly causing irregular contours, etc.! So..perhaps the other MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE gurus will chime in with their own perceptions on this process, but as we've given kudos to the Yamaha Engineers for creating this wonderful machine, I would think the same thing would apply to their breakin guidelines!

I guess that means it hauls balls? See, that three months of work was well worth it!

              Drip, drip, drip.

Thanks TC, I'm doing the rev range thing and not towing tractors just yet and webbcraft2150, it's a ball hauler alright! Ken, I painted the headers red, not the bike, it's still macho maroon but I'm thinking of painting the tank, side covers and rear cowl black. I have new Yamaha stickers that I bought from a guy in Germany so just as soon as I learn to read German I'll think about changing colour more seriously.

I started a new thread called 'oil filter housing alignment'. I've got an oil leak and can't figure it out.

The other thing I noticed is that there is a bit of popping on deceleration sometimes. This means it's running rich right? Not too concerned about that now, I need to sort out the oil leak before I do anything else.

For anyone thinking about installing a Wiseco big bore kit, all I can say is Just Do It!

The power increase is amazing. It's a different bike. It can tow tractors. (not that I would of course)

Thanks again to all who have helped and thanks in advance to those who will help in the future.
