  • Introduction

First off a hello and a very BIG thanks to those of you responsible for this forum and contribute to it. The information here exceeds what I had been looking for and confirms my feeling towards these wonderful machines.
A brief boring bio. Im a helpless mile maniac 20-25k yr. My first encounter with an XS11 was back in early 79 when I rode a friends 78. That week I purchased a new 79. During the course of the next two years that bike was drag raced excessively then dressed out with all the Yamaha touring package and I decided to tour on it. During that two years I managed 40k trouble free miles on a bullet proof machine.
Then traded for a new 81 Goldwing to tour with for 5 years.
Then got married......kids.....yall know the story, took a hiatus from motorcycling due to a balance problem (inner ear not checkbook).
Then a few years ago the bug hit again. Bought the 86 GW and havnt shut it off since. Wife and I jump on and go.
I love to tinker. Bought a old SilverWing ( ummmmm for the wife )
What a hoot to bring back to life and fun to ride after hearding around 800+lb machines.
Since getting back into riding, in the back of my mind another XS11 has been dwelling. I found this board about 6mo ago and all it did was make the craving worse. Then found a classified for what I was looking for. A neglected machine that needs TLC. Brought it home and the fun has begun. It should have a heartbeat again in a couple weeks. The complete makeover complete in 2 months. All the typical stuff carbs, calipers, paint, exhaust, clean, clean some more, then ride it like you stole it.
Information here has proved most valuable. Thanks again!
I'm sure I'll have many questions in the future that I cant find in the archives. Like...... Anyone know the paint code for the black/blue 81 SH? Or who can supply it. Seems colorite dont have it listed.
I'm also looking forward to some of the gatherings. Ive noticed the Tx and Smokey Mtn gatherings, both easy day rides. Wife gets whiney after 800mi days.

Which brings another question..... How bad would a person get chastised for being on an old GW if he couldnt leave his wife behind.

    Ok Im done now.
Thanks again for all the info here.

    Welcome.

As far as showing up on an old 'wing . . . heck, I show up on a Valkyrie. Come on down.

Push it, drag it, ride it, truck it, trailer it, hoof it, XS, XJ, Honda, Harley, Crotch rocket, zip-splat, Guzzi, Indian, beemer, whatever. Just come on down.

Riding and riders are the point.

              Buzzed in Spokane

Hi Buzz, welcome. Just saw your post and that you are from Spokane. So am I. Live on the north side of town. Sounds like you must be west of Spokane. ie school bus and farming.

Don't post much but read the forum most every day. XSers are a good bunch.

                Hi Spokane'rs,

I live on the west side of this great state, but often venture through your neck of the woods. We will have to meet somewhere, sometime.

I might know someone who would trade a pair of XS850s and an XS1100 for that Wing. It's not that I don't like Yamahas, I just prefer a Wing for my riding style.

Nah Mike this poor old broken down thing isnt for sale (yet) http://www.geocities.com/captjerry4/Bike/MVC-013S.jpg

A person cant have too many toys.
                      BTW.... its name is
                      mini van
Had a friend of mine think he had a fast Harley..... poor old loaded down GW ran and hid from him. To make matters worse
when he was getting ribbed about it by some friends I made the comment, "kinda like getting out ran by a mini van isnt it?"
                      The names stuck.
I need to write a book though, "How to suppress the urge to buy a new orange 1800" been living with it for 2 years now.
