I notice quite a few xsives from Ontario Canada

Anyone of you guys know of a good insurance company? I just got nailed for another 50% because, although I had insurance for many years, I took the Special off the road for a number of years and now they treat me as a new rider.

Also, did any of you put fire and theft on the bike and if so how was it appraised?

Try Kingsway , or RidersPlus .

I've used Kingsway, but several friends at work use Ridersplus.

I was looking at a new V-star until I got several insurance quotes! I too have been bikeless for 20 years and, although licencsed for 24, was still being treated as a new rider. That is why I bought the XJ1100 and just put PL and PD on her. I'm now on the road for less than, including the cost of the bike and one years coverage, for less that some of the quotes on the V-star.

hmm I did not get slapped for not having a bike on the road all those years. They never asked and I never offered the info. They do however have my house and car. i currently pay just under 50 a month but have only Liability and medical.

As I went through my broker, that has house, truck, business, etc. we tried to side step that issue. Been with them over 20 years and had the bike with them at least 6 but that was 13 years ago. Broker is checking Kingsway and I'll tell them to check ridersplus as well.

I wonder what they would say if I ask if its okay to ride in the snow seeing as we have to take it for 12 months.

I know your kidding but YES once insured you can ride it anytime you like. It is not against the law to ride a motorcycle in the winter.

Actually, it's quite a blast in the snow. Well, maybe not on the XS, but it was on my dirtbike when I was a kid and indestructable.

                    Hey Ernie
I was told they only go back so far 6 or 7 years and if they can find that you were insured they will give you the normal rate. I had to pay as a new rider but it will drop to $600 for next year. That's with Jevco Insurance company they were the cheapest for me ,the first few I called were asking for over $2000.00 a year almost #@%&$ my pants haha!

Not only do we get to PAAY a TON for it .. we can likely only use our bikes, enjoyably, for about 6 monthes of the year

                        Ontario Updates on insurance

                        Holy thread resurrection!!!!!

Found this thread, and thought it needed an update (selfishly ). If I've missed a newer thread... my apologies.

PO of my '78 XS1100E said he paid $300ish, but could not ride the bike to work, etc, etc. All kinds of restrictions - was Aviva I think. I don't want restrictions like that - WTF?

I have a quote from my car & house insurer. Same cost as my car (which was cheap by comparison for car) but not sure if cheap for the bike....

$1200 / year - no restrictions whatsoever. I know you south-of-the-border guys are choking on your spit right now, but what say you other Ontario folks?
