Much to pggg's dismay I am alive and kicking because I was wearing a full faced helmet when I planted my face into the side of a mountain a couple years ago at Tahoe.

When I was a kid I was wearing a 3/4 and did a face plant on a street. Ouch! That was '75 and I wasn't as savy regarding safety as today. I lost a couple teeth and broke my nose. Messed me up pretty bad.....see?

But after reconstructive surgery I look much better now!

I almost always wear a helmet. On rare occasion in the heat of the summer I will ride a few miles without one to keep from suffocating. But ususally no more than a couple miles. It's just not worth the risk.

I always wear a helmet, Full face!! I've bounced off a car in high school head first, and my metal flake blue helmet gave it's all for the cause. California didn't have a helmet law back then, but I knew the way I was riding, and always wore one. Now, I feel funny if I even get on the bike without a helmet on.
I can attest to Maximan and his Tahoe joy ride. He was able to walk away from the bike, after a few 9.5 moves with Zilla!!

            Funny Ray...REEEEEAL FUNNY!

But as we all know helmets are no sure fire way to prevent death. Here's dying proof....Check this out...This really happened in Tulsa last April. This dude planted his helmet into the rear of this truck at 100+. The helmet did nothing for him....oh I suppose it did one thing...it allowed his family to positively identify the body saving face (wink) You can read the story here at Snopes:

              WOW!!!

              Pretty graphic pics, man.

Notice the guy also had on a spine protector and elbow pads? Looks like he pissed himself too...wonder if it was midflight or after the fact when his body lost all control?

I wear one all of the time, laws or no laws. Dirt, street, whatever...it's a full face skid lid for me. Don't much care what anyone else thinks about that, it's my preference, it's my life.

Always wear mine, even in states where it's not required. I was hit by a car in 1970 when I was a senior at Penn State and planted the right side of my head right onto the sharp edge of a curb. Destroyed my 3/4 helmet, but I only ended up with a broken ankle and a concussion. Still wear a 3/4 with face shield because I wear glasses and have never found a full face that is comfortable with glasses. Anyone out have a reccommendation on a good full-face for someone wearing glasses?

Looks like I'm the minority here... I wear one on trips and when it gets cold, but trips around town and to work (7 miles)... usually no helmet. That wind blowing my hair will beat Viagra any day!

Same here, except for the daily commute.
Anything over 60MPH or under 50 degrees I find unpleasant without a lid (naked bike). So I wear a helmet for all the wrong reasons.
I generally wear one every time I ride dirt bikes though. More opportunity to land on my conk out there.
My dirt to street crash ratio is about 8000:1.

Always have worn 3/4 helmet, but started wearing a full face helmet the last two weeks, don't know why. I did find that I ride faster with the full face helmet on,guessing because it is quiter and I don't seem to have as much head banging going on at hwy speeds.

Full face. Helmets are not optional in NY. Not that I'm pretty, but I'd rather not have a helmet that saves my life but leaves my face evenly distributed over a hundred yards of asphalt. I fail to understand the "rider's choice" argument with helmets. Driving in most, if not all states, is a privilege, not a right. Makes the whole "choice" argument irrelevant. I'd like to see an exception however. Put $5M in escrow for medical expenses. When things go south, if that isn't enough to stitch you back together than well, you're f****d. Don't have the coin to ride lid-free? Then you'd better strap on your lid. At $2k to $5k per hour for a high res MRI your insurance burns up pretty quick. A neurosurgeon and staff can easily run $200-$300. Per minute. Think I'm bulls***ing? Check it. When the insurance is gone, guess who pays? (Hint: not you, because you'll be doing crafts at the local assisted living facility, if you're lucky) [end of sermon]

                                Always

I always did and will wear a helmet. I mostly wear a full face helmet though sometimes I do use one with an open face to make a short run here and there.

Summer riding and sweating can make the interior less than pleasing, as we all know. I have a helmet from simpson that I love. The shell and windscrean are in great condition, it is lightweight and just fits well.

Which brings up a question, not to hijack the thread but, what are some things that can be done to keep the inside from getting ratty? Can generic liners, etc. be purchased anywhere to refurbish an otherwise great helmet?
