I had let my MC license expire years ago. Rode for a couple years..illegal. Then to my surprise went and took the written test and flunked it! Decided to study a bit...haha passed the written to get a "learners permit". Then almost a year later did the "road test" Holy @#$%# I was amazed how hard that was.....did pass though. I had put on maybe 60k miles on bikes in the past...again I was surprised about the test. Trying to do a slow speed zigzag on an 11 is no piece of cake!XS 1100 LG

Derwat ( new user here) just bought an XS1100 about a month ago. First street bike he's owned.
Took the test, the following Tuesday, exactly one week after buying it, and passed.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

I've had my MC license for 20 years. When I moved from Colorado to kentucky I had to take a written test again and failed. I studied the drivers manual and went back the next day and passed. I plan on keeping them forever!Chris

Ive had my bike licence 4 over 20 yrs now,
back then you had a written test,
the physical test was getting on your bike
and riding it around the block, if u got back in
one piece and didnt forget to put the kick
stand up, you passed.
Ive had a few friends do the bike ride course
which is mandatory here now, and it seems
to be a very good course.pete

I've had mine for 29 years.
I had to write a written test, run a test course, and get followed on a road test, same thing Derwat just had to do.
I had my bike licence before I had my car licence. I've been without a car, once or twice, but have never had less than 2 bikes since I got my licence.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

The practical test is much harder than expected. And yeah, threading the needle on a big XS 11 is tough. The Trooper was very complimentary on it after the test. He said that very few people with the big bikes make it through the first time. I told he must be used to Hardly Riders. He got a big laugh out of it.Papa Gino

When I first got my MC license I had to take a written test. Waited the six months and then done the riding test. At the time I used a xs650. It was real easy with that bike. It would have been a lot tougher if I would have used the xs1100. But I would love to try it now. Just to see if I could still pass their test. Well ok, maybe more for the fun of it really.Chris

In Alberta too. It never comes off.
You can, however, forget to renew your entire licence, which happens every 5years, and then, if it has lapsed too long, you have to go and retest on everything.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

LOL...a brief history...
Got my Class D regular license in 1993
Got my Class B CDL in 1996.
Got my Class A CDL in 1999, with tanker and Haz-Mat endorsements.
Got my Motorcycle permit this year. Scheduled for a road test Sept 6th, but need to cancel and reschedule that due to the new job...can't miss any time the 1st 4 months or it's the door...
Defensive driver class every 4 years like clockwork, keeps the insurance down
In a semi, I have logged over half a million miles. In 6 years.
On a bike, this summer, I so far have 3000 and climbing. The new 40 mile round trip to work every day helps!"Rat Rod"

Here in WI you can fail to renew it..happened to me once. There is an extra fee (of course).
Here you can also take the BRC, and it gets you the licence. I recommend it to anyone I know looking to start riding. It is less of a hassle, and probably a good idea anyway.I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.
