  • Light-hearted Christmas Poems-merged

    Twas the night before Christmas
    And out in the garage
The XJ was sitting under its cover of gauze.
My wife and I had finished our evening nightcap
And had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

When out in the yard there arose such a clatter,
I jumped out of bed to see what was the matter!

And what did I see, but a decorated sled
Filled with packages, mostly green and red
And an old elf driver with a long flowing beard
Speaking to his reindeer, he didn’t know I heard

“The sled works quite well in snow and on ice,
But his Arizona mud just isn’t very nice.
This unseasonable rain has left quite a mess
Christmas will be late because we’re stuck, I guess.”

I put on some clothes, (someone might be around)
And walked up to Santa, who was still kicking the ground.
“I think I can help you.” I told the old gent and his deer
“I have an ’82 XJ in the garage over here.”

“You are not kidding?” Said he, with a smile on his face.
“1100 cc’s of style and of grace.
A classic design, if I say so myself.
The designers were inspired in part by an elf.”

We both went to work fitting the bike to the sled.
Soon we were done, Santa stood back and said
“If this work out, it’ll be the ride of my life.
What a story I’ll have to take home to the wife.”

He fired it up, slipped it into first gear
Let out the clutch and he was out of here!
It was quite a sight, that old bike and sled,
Piloted by a rider all dressed in red.

Up to the rooftops that old XJ flew
Pulling the sleigh and St. Nicholas too.
Christmas was saved, and Santa had fun
Taking the XJ out for a run.

And that is my story, and I swear its true,
How my old XJ brought Christmas to you
And if you should doubt it, and think I jest
Listen to Santa as he heads home for a rest.

His last words were, as he rode out of sight
“Merry Christmas to All, and have an XSively good night!”

Nice one. I have never seen any posts from you like this. You do these often, or am I just off the beat here?

Not often, but I have posted a Christmas poem each year for 4 years now. Kind of a tradition......you've been warned!

                    2004 Christmas Poem (long)

                    Twas the night before Christmas
                    And all over the land
Trees were trimmed and parties were planned

Me in my kerchief, and she in her hat
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap
When out in the yard there arose such a clatter
I jumped to me feet to see what was the matter!

As in the past, Santa I expected to see
He had often visited my XJ and me.
Our stories are legend, told over a few beers
We’ve managed to save Christmas some years.

But this time was different, and to my eyes did appear
In addition to a sleigh and 8 tiny reign deer
Missus Clause was traveling with Santa this year.

I put on my coat, put on my hat
And was out in the yard in 5 seconds flat.
On my way out I grabbed a jug
Of some my wife’s “Special” eggnog

“Santa!” I said, as I gave him a hug
“Nice you could bring the Misses along!”
“Jerry” said he with a sigh, “I’m glad to see you, no lie.”
“But the Missus says I’m getting to old to ride”

“Missus!” I said with a cry “Santa’s not to old to ride.”
“Have a hit of this nog, and lets go inside.”
“We have to settle this age thing once and for all
“Or our next rally may be very small.”

Missus sipped on her nog, looked over the bike
Said she “I’ve never ridden on Christmas Eve Night”
“We’ll fix that!” I said as if getting a queue
“Take the XJ for a ride, just Santa and you.”

Santa fired the XJ, blipped the throttle a bit
I helped Missus Clause to the pillion (It was a tight fit.)
Santa let out the clutch and went through the gears
Took the XJ for a ride, just like in past years

Up into the sky and over rooftops they flew,
Santa, the Missus, and special eggnog too
Santa showed off his skills in spectacular ways
Almost Xsive in the way that he played.

When the Clauses returned there was a glint in her eye
“My Goodness”, she said, “Now I see why
“You really like riding these old bikes far and wide
“I haven’t had such fun since I was a bride.”

Maybe it was the nog, maybe it was the night.
I sensed that everything was now all right.
There would be no talk of being to old to ride
The XJ had worked its magic just fine.

“We have to get going”, said Santa at last
“Lots of stops yet to make, we better move fast.
“But we’ll be back every year for a ride.
“Particularly if it makes my wife feel like a bride!”

Into their sleigh they both jumped, and to the team gave a whistle,
And off they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard then exclaim, as they rode out of sight:
“Merry Christmas to All, and have an Xsively Good Night!”
