Computer in the garage :-)

I finally got a computer in the garage so I can access my on line manual when I'm working on my bike. This will be handy as compared to running in and out of the house when I want to refer to it. I put this older machine in there as part of a I need MORE SHELFING project.
Does anyone else have access to a computer when they work on their bike?

OMG!!! If SWMBO gaught me hooking up my pooter in the garage she'd put my bed out there too!!

She already thinks I spnd too much time on the pooter, too much time on the bike. If I set myself up so I could do both at once, I'd be single... ...wait, lemme think this thru...

Your not supposed to have a garage, your supposed to have the bike in the

LIVING ROOM!

I'll look and see if I can find my pictures, with my room mate's XS650 chopper under the living room window, decorated like a xmas tree, and my decked 750-4K sitting where the dining table is supposed to be! (on the 2nd floor of a 3 story walk-up.)

Actually, it would be VERY handy to have an old computer in the garage, if I had a garage. Just tell your wife it will save all the greasy footprints from running in and out...

I have a 35 inch TV and DirecTV plus the wireless laptop. Also has a bathroom and small kitchenette. And there is an old Army cot out there just in case. Water heat and air. I damn near live in mine.

That's what I am talking about. My garage is separate from my house so I put a wireless card in the comp out there. I built the computer from trash scraps and it ran fine untill those bad TX hail storms a while back. Lightning fried it. I used to watch movies out there on it or search the site for info. It saved me hours of running back and forth from the house which is a PITA. Its nice when it was winter because I could sit in the garage and I would not need to open the door to get info. The cold air would overwhelm my small heater. That was one of the best tools in my garage. Ultimate music machine for working and ultimate movie machine for polishing. It was even better when the fridge in the garage was working.

Suggestion for all who have a computer in your work area:
To battle the dust infiltration that your computer vent fan will suck in, box in your system using cut pieces of a standard AC sytem intake filter. You know, the big square or rectangular thing you are supposed to change every month that costs a couple of bucks.
By cutting and stapling pieces to the frame around your computer you can minimize the possibility of dust shorting out or otherwise screwing up your system.
I have a computer in my basement and have it completely boxed in. It will save your motherboard.

Yes, and I also have a laser printer in there too. All online manuals at my disposal, print pages I'm working from, and receipts of stuff I buy from Bike Bandit!

I stream music, have access to all my music on my pc in my office and can even instant message SWMBO when I'm hungry! Kinda like orderin' online.

Heck, I've done that too.

Neighbors just shake their head at me...

The music I stream mostly is KRTH 101 from Los Angeles, 60's and 70's music.

98 Rock from Baltimore, 94.5 the Buzz from Houston, and of course, Shoucast, alternative Genre, XRM out of Dallas, kick ass rock!

I have a fridge full of soda and water, and an old 20" TV with cable hooked up.

I work with pooters a LOT, and I think this is an excellent, well thought out suggestion. It's cheap compared to buying a new MOBO or whole pooter and actually looks cool depending upon how you do it. Also, it camouflages the CPU from people snooping for goodies to run away with...Great suggestion!

Well, fixing them is what I do for a living, and I have yet to see one really damaged by dust.

About the worst thing that happens is they get all clogged up, overheat and shut off. Quick blow out with a compressor (which all the best equippeed garages must have :^)) and it's back to normal.

My office machine here uses an Antec P180 case. This case has intake filters on it, stock.

Worst ones are the ones owned by heavy smokers, where the tar and whatnot oozes out from around everything...

To discourage thieves, just write MAC on the side...Better yet, AMIGA

i use my laptop as well. And you pretty much can't get one these days without a wireless card in them, so mine does have wireless. Wow this is pointless... lol.

It is nice to see that many here do in fact make use of their computers in the garage. I store all sorts of things on mine about my bikes. Engine mileages, what has been done to each bike and when it was done. What is the current valve shim sizes photos for reference when rebuilding etc, etc. I do not have Internet in there yet but I may hook it up yet.
