I bought my Black 1981 XS 1100 Special-B on June 11 1981 rode it for 4 yrs and stored it for 21 yrs. 11,550 miles on it and all of them were mine except for 3 or 4 miles my brother inlaw put on it and then didn't want to ride it anymore ( something about putting himself up on the back seat he said.)

    HAPPY DAY

However, today was the first day back out on the road for my Special, Soooooo Cooooool, she still cooks, put on 65 miles today not much I know, But I needed to make sure I tightend everything back the way it should be. Took my wife for a ride she loved it. Took my son out and opened it up getting on to the highway he's still got an adreniline smile.

She sat so long that I had to go through everything it runs a little rough at the idle and right around 2000 rpm. but, anything past that is just smooth power on. I'M running a bottle of Ring Free in the fuel mix to get at all the little junk that may be in the carbs back in all those secret little channels that ya can't see.
The local mech wants me to run a couple of tank that way before I pay him to tweak it.

    So far so good.

    Don't fall down.

Hey Mike I know what you mean. I also worked for a Yamaha shop back in the 70's and 80's. I put every XS11 that we got together and test road every one. When I saw my first 1978 XS1100 unvailing at the dealer show in Las Vegas it was being pushed out onto the stage of the MGM Grande Hotel by "KING Kenny" himself. After see the bike I thought man that the bike to have. Two years later I picked up my 79 XS11 Special which had been wrecked twice. Rebuilt the bike, still have the bike, it my daily rider.

Bought my 81 Venturer 1100 new........regretfully sold it in 91........bought it back in August '05 for a 'song and dance' ($100). The best part of it all is how it eventually came 'home'. It is now as it was the day I bought it cept for adding back the Vetter Sound which I put on it back then. The original factory seat is in the closet, as it is perfect and has one of the nice Corbin leather tour seats on it which I purchased a year ago, and is also in mint cond. I also replaced the carrier rack and slide-in backrest(lower curved one which fits recess in rear trunk), both which were NOS. The bike also still had the hiway foot-rest which I installed some 25 yrs. ago. ..........Also at this time I am in Littleton,Co. at girlfriends, as My Honda ST front brake would not release cause of master cyl. piston not returning. Was headed to Sturgis, but being a safety issue, am having it rebuilt by Britt Honda Powersports in Littleton. Those here that are 'wrenches' know that this is a very unusual occurance in a master cyl. and may just wait till next year to be a first timer at that event.........good thing it is ALWAYS about the ride, not the destination!

I bought my XS11E in Feb 1979 at Pensacola FL as my "Ensignmobile". There I dropped once under a huge oak tree at a T intersection after the duty-storm rolled through. Replaced the left engine cover, clutch handle and aft turn signal. Put on some case guards.

I moved it with me all over the country during my navy days.

I'm on my third gas tank. The first was crushed during as PCS move to San Diego, when the movers threw a nylon strap over the tank and started cranking on it - it folded up like a cheap chair. After that, I bought a trailer to bring it back east. It sat for quite a few years and the second tank rusted out. Put a used one on about 8 years ago when I again started riding. Picked up some OEM pipes cheap so its on its second set.

Currently has only 33K on it. Most of my riding occurs at the XS rallies.

Between 1978 and 1982 I bought and rode three XS1100's from new. The last one is still in my possession, although a bit modified... together with two other XS1100's. In total over the years I must have owned about 10 of them.

Still looking for a chance to buy one with 0 mileage....

Hm, I see a lot of new guys around here.... most of my XS stories and toubles are alredy on this site.
To sum it up... Bought 78E bout 4 or 5 years ago, it was in boxes, various bits missing. Took 6 months to put it back together and maybe almost a year till it ran right. I will only say that the date of 1st registration is 10 days after my bday in 1978 (yeah, im young)
Anyway, I put a vetter windjammer IV on, with lowers, all 3 vetter bags, need a new exhaust, 5th gear fixed and a can of paint. And new tires. But I just cant be bothered... picked up a 79 parts bike that is way nicer than the 78E. Now I ride that one.
Took a friends XJR 1200 for a spin the other day. Now that is nice... elevens acceleration pales in comparison, no weight to worry bout and the brakes actually work!
Anyway, I guess I will sell one of the elevens to make room for a newish toy. Alltho I dont think I will go with the XJR... been eyeing the aprilia SL 1000 a bit... Besides, my SWMBO would kill me if I sold both elevens. I must have taught her well!

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
                (stole that one from I-dont-know-who)
