FREEE TIME without being screamed at. How is the motorcycle world doing? I miss my bikes. I also feel deprived not being able to hang out with one of the coolest groops of people out there. "Oh, let them scream... It's not like they can kill you or anything."
Screaming is just their way of getting your attention. (don't give them any reason to yell)
After they've got your attention, then they can start to teach, which is why they're there.
Then again, Hobbyman...
Maybe they love yelling at you because they enjoy your company as much as I did.
Stay out of their way, keep your young smart mouth shut, and become invisable. Don't try to be an "individual"!
Don't be the kid in class who always raises his hand with the answers, etc.
You're there to learn their information, not share with them 'Hobbymans Vast Knowlege". Don't "spotlight" yourself.
You'll do fine.
I've forgotten... how long are you gonna be away for?
Keep us posted."Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

Well, I just got back from lunch. Being a Plebe Candidate is like being the fire hydrant the dog uses to urinate on. You get used a lot and it stinks. You work you way up from there. I can say that Indoc wasn't that bad but it wasn't fun. I am in 1st Co and our our DI kept trying to break our bearing. We had a few "special" candidates as they were called. Our platoon broke the record for the most consecutive days to get anchor platoon. NOT a good thing. The people that were causing us to get anchor platoon got kicked out at the end. Now its over and I am happy. It poured today so I am going to go down to the water front and sail tomorrow. We have these small Sonars and a few of the upperclassmen on the offshore sailing team were going to take a few Plebe Candidates out. I am also happy that the sponsor family that I will hopefully get is involved in motorcycles.United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

Hang in there Dude. I think your post for XS11 bike photo's probably has set some sort of record for most views! Can someone confirm?
Y'got gonads, hang in there!
$E.LibertyOld bikers never die, they're just out of sight!
My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
I've been riding since 1959.

Get involved in the waterfront. Get on one of the offshore racing teams if you can. IT IS A BLAST. Lots of time away from school, lots of benefits, little bit of party action. And, it is probably something you will never have a chance to do again. It is well worth the time.
Don't get sucked into the power boats. All you end up doing is shining brass and washing the decks and then every once in awhile you have to take out some bigwig and kiss his ass.
Racing the dingy's is fun but more of an individual sport, and you can't take the dingy's out partying. Offshore racing is the way to go.Harry

I am definitaly doing offshore sailing. They take some cool trips. THey have some nice new boats that were donated earlier. I can't rember the types but they are very expensive(millions). The only reason that I would want to join the power squadron is that the Navy just gave the Academy an older YP (yard patrol) training vessel. It is not officially part of the power squadron, but they let the the power squadron run it when they do take it out.United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

HobbyMan,
Good to hear from you
Sailing is a blast. Almost like riding the bike in dead quiet (except for a lot of screaming of course )
The military has studies and found that most people learn better under pressure, so just remember that when they are yelling at you IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!!
Hang in there
