The earliest dated post that I made on the forums was made on 11-04-2002 and I had been lurking around the Yahoo group a little before that. Quite appropriately, my post said: “I'm just a n00b around here, but that almost sounds like coil related problems”
Well, even after 1,000 posts under my belt, I still feel like a ‘n00b’ and learn new things about these old bikes all the time.
My first recollection of an XS11 was when I was barely double digit in age and my teenage brother bought a beautiful 1978 XS11 via consignment from the local Honda shop. From that moment, I knew I *had* to have one!
Many years later that same brother and I visited a junkyard down here in Tally looking for a straight frame to replace his frame that had been damaged years earlier by a Georgia woman that managed not to see him in the turn lane and plowed into his rear doing about 45mph! These puppies can take a beating! Anyhew, the junkyard guy had a ’79 that was about half there… man, we just looked at each other and knew we couldn’t have this old girl stripped down like that for parts…so we bought her whole (I still need to pay my brother back that $500) and took her home. I named that bike ‘Maya’.
That prompted my signup on the group and forum. I’ve learned a lot from those that have stood in my shoes and I always wanted to return the favor by helping those that I could. As I sit here typing my 1,000th post, I realize I still have a lot to learn but I’ve learned enough so far to fill a book. To J.P., TC, John, and all the others too numerous to count, thank you!
