Yes most accidents do happen less then 5 miles from home. I took it to work yesterday. 130 miles round trip. Beautiful ride in the afternoon and a great ride home. Right until it came down to turning off the pavement and onto the gravel (done this thousands of time on a bike) I turned in slow and the front wheel slid and I ejected. Bike went down I stood there. No harm no foul no damage. Seems the township graded the road while I was work and left it pretty loose on the corner. And it takes about an hour to restart after it's been over. 1/2 mile from home I left it on the side of the road and walked home. Walked back up about 2am and retrieved it.

That's a bummer but at least your OK and the damage is minor. Many don't realize just how easy it is to break a ankle or a leg even in a minor mishap when riding a bike that weights between 5 and 6 hundred pounds.
