I hope everyone is enjoying their time remembering the birth of OUR country. I know it's not perfect, but after three weeks in France, I think it's a LOT closer than some other countries!!
Enjoy everyone, and I'll be in DFW about 14:00 on the 5th!! Then on to SJC and home!!Ray Matteis

Indeed a Special Day.
Dear fellow XSives,
The following is a PM I received last night from John(Oldbiker648). He lives in Richmond, Va.. I just spoke to him on the phone, and he's given me permission to post this. He's a proud but private man, and doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve!
Before today, I was the only Xsive that he had shared his personal loss with. The following and what Scott said above prompted me to post this, for him, and for all of us, our Xtended family as well. SO...I hope you'll take a moment and think and thank those veterans that have given their ALL.
Sincerely, respectfully, T.C. USN veteran '79-86
T.C.
I think you may appreciate the feeling I had this morning when I opened a package which I found on my porch after riding home last night after a very cathartic session with the "80G.
My son Tim was killed in Baghdad on 7SEP04, while serving as a platoon leader for the 127th MP Company after having volunteered to return early to replace a 2LT who was lacking in leadership skills.
Arlington National Ceremony has hosted a disply of portraits of the first approximately 1100 casualties of the war and Tim was argueably the 1000th member of the armed forces to perish, so he made the cut (so to speak) for The Faces of the Fallen display at ANC which has been there for the past 2 1/2 years. I have made the trip to visit Tim's portrait 4 times since I discovered where it was located.
This morning I opened the box and received the very same portrait, perhaps 7" x 9" , which had been sent to me as Tim's dad. I took it to work and every time I had a bad moment, I looked at the smile on his face and had to grin. He's gone but will never be forgotten.
I send this to you because as a veteran I think you are better able to understand my pride due to my son's service and at the same time the fact that my life will never be as full since I lost him.
Your friend,
John H. Price III (Oldbiker648)

Again, thanks seems trivial for such a sacrifice of Tim and his family (Oldbiker648).
I was sent this video story today by a friend which is closely related to what this exhibit is all about. It's worth a watch: http://tinyurl.com/ywftgl
While I was lucky enough to be of serving age when peace was rampant, I did not serve in the military, but I have several brother-in-laws, followed by their sons have and are still serving the the Army and Air Force. My daughter is also currently in the Army ROTC program at this time, so these things have taken on a more personal flavor for me over the years.
I encourage all XS members to thank a soldier when you see one and to donate to the USO or organizations like the Disable Veterans of America to sacrifice in a much less painful, but very meaningful way.
Thanks for this posting, T.C..Last edited by scott0757; 07-04-2007, 09:47 PM.Past Rides:
