  • Whatsit trying to tell me?

Well hell. My XS11 Guru buddy DiverRay just left town a coupala days ago, right after my bike was having some electrical problems.
Poor bastard. His company has shipped him off to France for 2 to 3 weeks to show them American technology. It’s a lousy rotten, stinking job, but some body has to do it, eh?
I bought a new battery, and I got another rectumfier This seemed to fix the immediate problem of electrical incontinence, but now I have a new problem: the middle trouble light is on. This light is marked ”Tail Light, Brake Light, Oil.” I’ve checked the tail light/ brake light bulb, and it is o.k. The light is on solidly except when idling, at which point it almost goes out.
What is it trying to tell me? It seems to run fine.
Hey Planedick, if you see this, I remember you have an oil pressure gauge behind the cylinders on your bike. Did you have to make any modifications to your bike or the gauge to get it to work?

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

So, when you are running down the road, the light is full on. But when its at idle, it dims out?
And this did not happen until you replaced some electrical components?

Try to locate the output from the pressure switch and find out if it is opening and closing when the engine is running/stopped.

Looks like, from the diagram, the switch closes when the pressure goes away. I'm not sure where the "Light Checker Unit" is, but that's where the input from the pressure switch goes. You should be able to get a meter on it there.

        Mitch-
Thanx for the link! I think there is probably some relevant info there.

          Guage...

I made a special bolt with provisions for a guage to replace the one in the oil passage. It's made of Stainless Steel and I have some material left in case you want one.
