It was down the street and he was throwing it away. THe $5 was more or less a donation for his son's team to go to some camp or something. I got a nice set of speakers for $5 also. THis stove had barely been used. Tod, I know you have a ton, but you are a few hours awayUnited States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

On the road
Last week took a little trip to the coast. Had a meeting planned with some clams and oysters. Stopped for a smoke break and noticed this Moo-tel. Immediately thought of Tod and Hobbyman. Kinda place they might like, (free and outa the way)

"Be glad you didn't stay there...!"
I told both of you that old houses are haunted and such.
The owner of that house was brutally murdered and buried on the property.
If you look closely at the tree on the left, in the front, you can see his spirit standing there, waving... trying to get you to stay so he can drain the life outta ya!"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

Well, I am back. It was awesome. Tod, I have all those roads we did last time beat. Imagine hundreds of miles like the talimena trail. At times I was leaning way over, not quite to the pegs, but my helmet was a few feet away from the canyon walls. My advice to anyone who wants to take thier bike up to pikes peak is don't do it. Tkae the train. Between the wasboard dirt roads and my bike running REALLY rich, the way up was fun. On the way down there were deep grooves ( 4-6 in) cut that ran along the road. I had to drive along the left side of the road. My plugs were fouled almost completely fouled when I got down. Later on the trip my Dad wanted to come up and so we met at royal gorge. It was really expensive but we were already there. I wanted to be the first one to do a wheelie across the bridge but my better judgment kicked in. THe rest of the trip was all twisties and mountain passes. MY dad and I were having a blast until we hit a curve that the speed was not marked accurately. I survived but my dad fliped the bike. He was alright. The bike got damaged quite a bit. The rear part of the frame is bent and the gauges are trashed.

I'm glad he's OK. He should know better! It's not the flying through the air that's the tough part... it's that frikkin landing!
Also glad to see that these bikes rarely leave you stranded on the road... even after a crash! Mine got me home on a spun bearing last year. Look forward to hearing more. But hurry... you only have a few days left!

I don't think his BALD front tire helped him either. WOw, I really can't type after spending all day on the bike.
The weather cooperated nicely because it would start out cool every day and towards the afternoon it would rain just as we pulled into our campground. We stayed dry and the rain washed the roads and cooled the air down for the next day of riding. THe only times my bike got dirty were at Pikes peak and the way home. That was nice because I only had to hit the carwash once. I thought about putting my rain suit on and hitting an auto wash. Wouldn't that be fun. Anyway, These canyon roads usually started low and they would work their way up to the top, (in several cases at least several thousand feet higher) With these roads I did not mind paying gas, which by the way got up to $4.22 for premium ($4 for reg- 85 octane) in Aspen. On the flip side, there were roads so flat, straight, and boring that the only way to survive was to open it up. For those flat sections we were running about 100 mph with no cops ever sighted. This is really the first time I have cruised at that speed constantly. The only realy dangerous things about the roads were the animals and rockslides. You really get a rush when you are cooming around a cuve with your pegs down only to find very large rocks (basketball size) sitting all across your lane. THe dead animals that had been hit by cars and then chewed on by other animals really made me think also. When I get back from school, we need to organize a ride out there. I don't know how you Colorado guys ever go to work. If I lived out there, I wouldn't be able to turn into work every morning with mountains stairing me in the face.
The oly thing that really pissed me off about this trip( besides the accident) was that I forgot to take a picture of my bike on Pikes Peak. I stopped after I gotten back on paved roads and took pictures of it but I was not about to turn around and drive back up. I am sure the construction workors up ther will rember me because I was probably the only one dumb enough to take a carburated vehicle up the mountain.
