Death of an antique...

Saw an unfortunate accident today. A person lost a good friend, his 1974 CB750-4.

A car decided to do the 4 wheel skid trick, to stop for an orange light, and the gentleman ran into the back of the car with his Honda, destroying the front end.

He had owned the bike for 33 years, since new. Not many people keep thier bikes that long, and to lose it after that amount of time is tragic.

he was following too close.

I did the same once. Tried to swerve but my shin hit the bumper. 8 stitches, no damage to either vehicle. My fault.

Well, he may have been following too closely, but those drivers that decide they have to power slide to a stop because the light turns orange when they are 50' from the intersection, at 40mph, leave a lot to be desired.

sad for the bike, but at least the Subject line is not "Death of an Antique Owner". We have to be defensive when we ride. Look ahead and figure out that if the light is yellow, we need to be stopping.

I've only had mine for a year and a half or so, and I would be absolutely devistated if something like that happened to mine after all the time and effort I have put into it. After owning it that long, it's got to feel like losing a kid. But... it is steel. Buy a frame, front end, or whatever and bring it back. There's plenty of those old CB's out there. Just glad your buddy is ok.

Well, as the lady told me when we smashed up our excursion, It's just a hunk of metal. I get really attached to my vehicles from the amount of time I spend on/in them. I still miss it, but like said, at least he is alive. That is the important thing.
