Here we go... perhaps the "rank" of members should not be described as they currently are. There are many on this forum with XSsive knowledge that don't have 1000 posts. And posting over 1000 times does not certify one as :"a teacher and especially intellectual guide in matters of fundamental concern" or "one who is an acknowledged leader or chief proponent" or "a person with knowledge or expertise, EXPERT"
I understand that there is no way to automate an evaluation process for member postings, but the current "rankings" are misleading.
Perhaps the opposite approach would be worth considering. A "BS" scale. The more posts, the greater your BS rank. Example:
tommystinson
new, 9
tommystinson
BS'er, 89
tommystinson
effing BS'er, 1039

LOL at all the haters with sub 500 posts
He might not reach 1,000 posts by posting youtube videos, but can I reach 1,000 by replying to those threads?1979 XS11F Standard - Maya - 1196cc (out of order)

I think that may have been a (good natured) jab at, ahem, me? I, in most circumstances would have a quick and witty reply. Yet the comments of my wife from just a couple months ago leave me impotent:
"Wow! We got 14 inches of SNOW last night!"
"Tired from shoveling already? I knew the SNOW was too much for you!"
"I wish we had some SNOW on Christmas!"

"If I may..."
True words, Tommy.
But, several distinctions apply.
Yes, anyone can attain Guru status by reaching 1,000 posts. And that being said, let's take a look at the Gurus, shall we? Click on "members" at the top of the screen. Then click on "Top Ten Posters". There we find a ranking of all the members on the site by number of posts. I believe there's three pages of Gurus.
I did a quick perusal of the names, even went a few extra pages to members with 900, 800, 700, posts, etc. All had something in common. All were not only frequent contributors, but all also had much of substance to contribute.
Yes, there are many members with XS'ive knowledge who haven't attained 1,000 posts. But 1,000 posts usually comes from taking the time to sit at their computer each night answering questions for those in need. (Or, as in my case, mocking and insulting people who deserve it. Ok, even those who don't deserve it, but sometimes it's hard for me to tell)
True, correct answers or good advice can be given by anyone, regardless of their ranking.
Most Gurus attained the majority of their status through technical postings in the "XS/XJ Discussion" area, not just by frivolous postings in the "Member's Lounge"."Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

Guru status is only a label. Tis not hard to work out who has the goods and who doesn't.
If I ever get there I'll ask for the status tag that suits me most.
