  • Back in the saddle again

I just picked up a 1980 XS1100sg for 1750, 28k in beautiful condition. It took me a five minutes to remember what it felt like. I bought a brand new 1980 XS1100G, back in 1982. I thrashed the poor girl, tranny gave out about 42k and I sold her. But I never forgot how it felt
I have owned many bikes over the years, but the XS1100 was my favorite. Now it is like finding a good friend.
I am 51 years old, but this "new scooter" has got me shaking like a teen ager. It didn't take me long to have the clutch slip. Now I remember, screw the clutch in for the roll ons, back out for shifting....Any body else do this???
    A great web site.
If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

      Hey Saddle UP,

Welcome "back" to the fold! We now know much more about the tranny and it's tendency for failings, so IF this one starts to act up, you can now fix it!!

Don't know what you mean by your terminology for adjusting the clutch, but there are TECH TIPS.....you'll find them ALSO from scrolling down from the MAIN FORUM PAGE, not just the links in the left hand yellow column, it'll show you how to adjust the clutch properly at the engine case, and then just adjust at the handlebar to suit your grip!

If it keeps slipping, make sure you are NOT using FULL SYNTH oils, they aggravate the clutch. You may need to do a clutch rebuild with new friction, but more likely new springs. See the tech tips for the extra steel plate in the clutch!

There are several PNWers near you, do a search for Oregon, and you'll find a thread where you can ADD yourself to the list, and see who's near ya!
