  • XS1100 spotted

As I left the store buying new spark plugs for the LG, I saw a bike rolling toward me in the parking lot.
I immediately recognized an old Vetter fairing.
I told my son "here comes an old bike like mine". As it rolled past I see it's an XS1100!!
I start the Suburban and take-off after him.
Turns out he lives right around the corner from me. It's a 78 and he just got it on the road a couple of days ago. As we were chatting the UPS truck arrived with a side emblem from Old Bike Barn. Christmas all over again and it's not even my bike.
    Emblem looked good.
I told him about this site so we may get a new member.

    New member in the neighborhood!

    Hey Pat,

That's great. I noticed a new member on the forum about a week or so ago that listed he was in Hampton, which is where I work here in Tidewater area of Virginia. But he hasn't contacted me publicly or thru PM. Not sure if he realized that Portsmouth is that close to him?? I'll have to go back thru the new members and see if I can find him. But I guess he knows what he's doing, not sure what help I would be??

I see we have a new member in my neck of the woods also. JJGross1 in Saginaw. That's about 10 miles from me.

        Am I a loner?

Thats great guys. Nothing against the plastic crotch rockets but I love to see the old metal on the streets.

I feel like a loner around New Orleans. There are a few old Hondas and I do see one guy on what looks like an XS650 every now and then but he is always going in the other direction. Thats about it. I used to see an old friend of mine with an XS1100 but he has not been around for a few years now.

I have the feeling Katrina ruined alot of old bikes and scattered some riders to other places. Who knows, I might be the only XS1100 owner left down here!
