  • cost of XS's new in 79-80?

After seeing the new (40 miles) 80 XS go for $6000 on ebay, I was wondering, what did they sell for new in 79 and 80?

I just tried a search, but can't seem to find them! I know we've talked about this before. My 81SH was about $3200.00, but that was thru the Navy Exchange system, original price might have been a little more?

But just like some of these vintage cars that sold for a few thousand, and now garnish 50-100K!

there HAS to be someone on the forum that has a motorcycle magazine from those years that features the bike AND has the MSRP in the 'SPECS' section...

I paid $3850.00 cash for mine new from the dealer in 80. It was in Feb with 6 inches of snow on the ground so they threw in a king queen seat and sissy bar for free. 2 years later I had the big dumb A@# attack and sold it.

I paid right around $5,000.00 for my Midnight Special complete with full dress "Vetter" touring equipment in May 1980.
I just ordered replacement parts for the fairing this morning. The bike alone was just over $4,000.00.

My 81 Venturer 1100 was $5,300 and change new if my memory serves me correctly. Week later, added matching rear trunk, king-queen seat, saddle-bag liners, and vetter stereo housing. All cept for stereo housing was Yamaha accessories, and still have it all after getting bike back 15yrs. after selling it.(had it ten years, should never have sold it, has taken me the past year and a half to get it back like it was new.............and several dollars.)

MY dad also paid about $3600 at the navy exchange in Yokosuka Japan. He had it assembled in Pensacola. He went back and got a replacement stock exhaust when his rusted out for about half the price of the sock exhaust in the states. I bet somewhere in a little Japanese store there are shelves of XS1100 parts.

Got my first XS in September 1977, serial #000254, full dress kit from Yamaha. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was $500.00 MORE than girl friends new Honda Civic 5 Speed. I think it was just about $3,900.00 in '77.

Thanks Ljay40. I remember the day it came into the dealer. They were backed up and I asked their mechanic if I could help him along and take it out of the crate and start the assembly. The accessories were already waiting for the bike. Once assembled they were able to take the time and do all the dealer prep on the bike, I finished the "Vetter" installation and I have been riding it ever since.
When I ordered the "Vetter" replacement parts on Sunday, I referenced my "Vetter" Owners card number and they e-mailed back and wanted a scan of the card to post.
The bike needs a new electrical plug at the fairing, a few windshield screws and the left side molding replaced. A little detailing and we are ready for summer. And with the way gas continues to rise not a moment too soon.

I got my 1978 XS11 in the box for just under 2800 Canadian in 1980. I had a 750 on layaway over the winter but when the shop offered me the 11 they "found" at the warehouse I jump on it. It was only 300 dollars more then I was going to pay for the 750
