On the other forums I visit, it's referred to as "Post Whoring" and those that do it are "Post Whores"... usually it's the youngins (under 22 is considered being a youngin in gaming circles) that do it.

I'd rather spin wrenches or work on the house than waste time on the web. Oh, I'd rather be riding, too.

Perhaps a review of title or assigned rank on this hallowed forum would be in order. Comments? I'm willing and capable of posting my messages one letter at a time. BWA-HA-HA-HA! I'll be a GURU in an hour!

You want to see what the endless droning of children looks like go to gaiaonline. Over 5 million (yes, million) members, most all of them are 13-17. The forums have threads in the millions and I wouldnt be suprised if they have reached a billion individual posts already. I read an article that said one specific thread has over a million posts on its own. I can only imagine how many my son has contributed to it.

It's insane.

The moderators here have it pretty easy compared to just about every other forum I've participated in.

Tom, it was just a friendly ribbing for that NEWLY crowned GURU. He's been posting real content for the past year, it was just that last day when he was accused of alleged padding!

Yeah, I'd rather be playing TombRaider on my Xbox, or riding Godzilla, but for the most part, I don't have a life, and so I enjoy "trying" to help others that are having difficulty in their wrenching endeavors while I dull my brain watching LOST!

SO... I don't consider this time spent HERE a waste, although others might disagree with me!

Thanks for another chance to PAD my standings, only some 250 more and I'll pass 5000!

Hmm, what should I say? Don't know yet. I am sweating from polishing my dad's valve cover on the couch. I do have a computer in the garage too. You know, If I wanted to make guru sooner, I could write a program to do that for me. What fun would there be if you could only explain how to work on an XS? Well, bad example. Anyway this site is awesome and is a lot cheaper than a phone bill

And, I can talk to REAL people, not like those mentioned who are immature. I don't think it would be possible to BS people on this site because there is always someone out there who is more intelligent than you like TC, PRO, John, etc...) Tom, I must say this, you have got to have acquired some sort of experience when you have restored 4 bikes to working order and are working on two more. Keeping 4 bikes running and restoring 2 on a limited budget causes some frustration and this is only place where people know what you are talking about. Might I ask what the members lounge was created for? If you doubt my abilities, stop by and take a peek at my garage.

Don't knock Hobbyman.. his postings give reason and meaning to my otherwise sad and dreary life.
I suppose... I should give thanks.
Without daily interaction with other people, how could I assure myself of my own superiority?
Ahh... the phenomenon that is Hobbyman. Where to begin?
Sure, there's plenty of reason to dislike him:
He's young,(and we're aged), he's smart(most of us are average), he's enterprizing (we're mostly lazy), He has four out of six bikes running (I have four bikes, none currently running)...
(Ok, one that I could probably turn the key on... but haven't since Sept.)
Maybe what rankles me to a small degree, is his sponge-like qualities. No, not like your out of work brother-in-law, but his uncanny ability to obsorb and retain things.(Most days, I can't even remember if I've fed the dogs or not)
You'll note, in the early days of his meteoric rise... it was nothing but question after question. This he all processed in that "HAL9000" head of his.
Through the evolution of time, our little red-headed proto-human began walking upright, and dispensing advice on his own.
(answers formulated from what he learned from others, but also what was learned through his trial and error)
He is currently at a stage where I feel threatened. He posts frequently, (often before I get a chance) and his answers are detailed and correct.
All that remains now is for him to get old, cranky and cynical... and he will have replaced me completely.

Hobbyman... you may have racked up many "Frequent Fluffer Miles", but no one questions your obvious abilities. (we may hate you for them, but that is another matter)

Well, Knappy-headed isn't really an insult. The correct term is "nappy-headed", which really isn't much of an insult either, just being more descriptive than some soft-headed people care for, I suppose.

The joys of an Internet forum, where the subtleties of tonal inflection and body language are lost. Sigh. If my post was misunderstood:
1) I wasn't busting on HobbyMan.
2) Referencing the posts and forum member on a computer gaming forum was providing an example of a TRUE posting whore

3) When declaring that I had better things to do I was not insulting or disparaging my beloved XS O.A. forum. I was making note that I would be uninterested in posting 9 times a day over a year and a half about computers and computer games, although I do enjoy games myself.
4) I'm not sure if owning or "wrenching" on more than one XS is a good thing HobbyMan. I'll presume the best, that you have "battered mechanic syndrome" rather than being a little dim for owning more than one Eleven.

BTW: creating an applet or bot to post on the forum would be cheating. Plus it would make you a script kiddie

! I would be much more impressed if you hacked the forum and made yourself a 10k+ poster. NO, I did NOT just encourage you to hack the forum, just stating what I believe to be a true display of skill.

HobbyMan... I don't think anybody doubts your abilities... Some of your posts have been very thought provoking and well thought out... We just like making fun of the one liners and the fact that two riders have 6 bikes between you... no big deal... It's just a bit of XS envy... or just a bit XSive...

I don't know... It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things... You're happy and you aren't hurting anyone... I'd say you were staying off the streets and out of trouble... but that's only partly true...

Personally... I plan on being the Fluffy Gurette... I have no notion of ever being an advice giver at this site... although my knowledge of these bikes is growing by leaps and bounds... learning from those who have posted far below the number required for Guru status. I've even been able to successfully diagnose several problems that have been posted as of late... so by the time I hit 1000 posts.. maybe I will earn the title (doubt it... but maybe)
Of course, I have the distinct advantage of the live-in true Guru... but the point is...

Post what you want... everything is taken in stride... It's mostly all fun anyway...

I will say though... STOP POLISHING YOUR STUFF IN THE LIVING ROOM!!!! What a MESS!!!
