I took the existing emblem to a sign/graphics shop, and asked if they could duplicate the OEM emblem. They said they could. Then, just for $#its n grins, I asked if they could change the wording to 'Twilite Special', but keep the font the same. They could scan the emblem, and the plotter would reproduce it, but to customize it would take some art work. They said it could be done but that would be expensive. They gave me a book with all of the available fonts in it, and I browsed through it until I found one that was very similar to the 'XS', and then found one similar to the 'Eleven Special'. The material it is printed on is called Chrome Mirror vinyl. I also had a smaller one made that is similar to the 'Midnight Special' plaque that is on the pilot box of an MNS, and applied it to the top of the pilot box to mimic the MNS. It just says Twilite Special. I had two of the smaller ones made, so the other will be on my helmet. Two side cover emblems and the two smaller ones was $19 and change. Much cheaper than trying to find new emblems. I am going to go back there and see if they coild make some pilot box faces to recover the old faded ones that many of our bikes have, and also see if they can make some new switch gear labels also. I had a line on some pilot box faces last year, but it didn't work out. Maybe I'll get lucky this time. If I can get those items made would any of you be interested in some?

Probably, if you have them laying flat when you spray them.

Really interested in a 'Midnight Special' pilot box label and side cover labels. course I'd like both of them to be in gold lettering.

                      switchgear labels

Switchgear labels are already available. I got some from a XS650 email list member. He's making modifications to include the XS1100. He has some listed on eBay now. Seller ID "DONEBYSUNDAY". His are very nice!

                        John,
If the emblems are Vinyl, you CAN paint clear over them. I did that with the fairing on "Daily Ride", and it worked great. You just put them on the side cover, and give it on or two coats of clear, and your done.
PS, IF you can get the pilot boxes done, I'll take mine back, plus an extra one.
