  • "A note about Personal Messages"

Dear XS11 Member, (you know who you are)

In regards to the PM you sent concerning....

I have figured out your problem. The fix is quite simple, and the engine can be saved with just five minutes of work.
I spent an hour writing a PM to you, spelling out in step by step detail how to make the repair yourself, saving both money and time.
I then hit the button and sent the PM your way.

    YOU BOOB!
Your PM box was full, my message was lost, as was an hour of my time which I can never recover!

I couldn't believe that your PM box was full, as I also found it equally hard to believe that people had actually written to you!

    Be that as it may...
Empty your PM box (delete the 'sent" messages, also) and give me a buzz again. (then give me another buzz, as I'll ignore you the first time)
Maybe, just maybe, I'll take pity upon you and grace you with another reply.

Oh, the life of a Guru is just so demanding.... problems to solve, people to mock... Where DOES the time go?

(Hey T.C., do the PM's in the "PM tracking system" also count toward total PM volume?)

We'll I'm one Guru that must be a "BOOB" I just don't delete PMs. I like to keep them around for reference. I think there should be a way to archive them or something so we don't have to delete them.

Personally I would rather someone e-mail me than PM and put some reference to XS11 in the title.

left-click / highlight the message and right-click / "save as" to the folder of your choice on your computer.

            boobs..... somebody say boobs?

Prom, if you were to have hit your back button on the browser..... your message woulda been intact, then copy and paste to a notepad after you slam the boob for actually having a full box! I know cause I had to do it once or twice. Boobs everywhere.

            Maximan and PK .....
You can also forward them to your own email address if you want as well as save them on local machine!

The PM message box/folder on the site has a 100 message limit, the messages themselves are limited to 2500 characters long.

There are 4 radio buttons at the bottom of the PM window that you can review and UNCHECK prior to you sending PMs, such as AUTO Parse URLs, but the most important one is the SEND COPY TO SENT FOLDER! IF you don't uncheck that button, then every PM you have sent is copied to your SENT folder and counts towards your total of messages you can keep.

So...just because you have only 25 messages in your INBOX, your PM box may be full because you have 75 copied messages in your SENT folder!

NEED TO CLEAN HOUSE ONCE IN A WHILE!

These limits were set by the webmaster years ago. Like Pat Kelly said, if you want to keep more, just copy, and paste into Notepad and store on your home computer in XS11.com folder or such!

But, Yeah, Prom, that back button does work. Or, you could highlight and copy the entire message into a temp notepad document UNTIL you see that the message was sent, then delete, or save for later. You could also CREATE the reply first in the Notepad, and then just copy and paste into the REPLY window, but it's harder to keep track of HOW LONG your reply has gotten to keep from running over the 2500 length!

I understand what you mean, T.C., but I have several problems. (we won't discuss them now, but only focus on P.M.'s)
Unfortunetly, being lazy, I don't start a new PM. I just reply to the one that was sent. I type my message, then erase what the sender had written, and hit the send button.
So.. if their box is full, and I hit the back button, it brings up THEIR original message, but not what I had typed in.
I know.. I know... I could send them a "new PM" and not just reply on their original message form, but that would take effort.
Maybe it works for others. Maybe it's me? Maybe it's a ten year old computer still running Win 95?

Until this thread I didnt even know there was a way to empty your PM box. Just goes to show that it is true, every day is a learning experience.
