Anyone ever heard of resistor wire?

DiverRay, I respectfully disagree. The transistor ignition module Succubus has is by itself used to protect or extend the life of the points. An inductive load is never a nice thing for a mechanical switch. The unit may be a universal 6/12v device, with the resistor wire used to drop voltage for 6v applications (?) The fact that it keeps the caps connected to the points seems a little unusual. Most of the benefit from one of these devices is reduced maintenance on the points, since it prevents the arcing that normally takes place when points are switching the coils. Velleman makes a kit for less than $20 that is the same type of unit, but you'd need two. Otherwise you could wire it up, and if it burns out-buy a Dyna S for $200 and never worry about points again.

Ok, looked around and didn't find anything of much use. What is the number on the transistor on the module? Should be of the form 2Nxxxx.

The module is probably just a PNP transistor and the resistor is probably to keep the current at a safe level with the engine not running, ignition switch on and points closed.
