      Hi ambidextrous.
      very nice special...
      very good price too.

      Original seat cover looks good.
My 80G cover finnally came apart and first attempt at making my own has gone south. Hopefully lessons learned will make second attempt useable...

Great looking Special. Welcome aboard. Other than leak repair, all you need is some super-bike style handle bars (unless you like the old buckhorn bars )

My Dad and I got our second to last bike just north of Chicago for $400. I wasn't in nearly that good shape though it was a full dresser. Congrats on being the new owner on a great looking XS.

I was just looking at your "leaky head gasket"...and to me, it looks more like a leaky cam cover gasket (read: instead of 4-10 hours work, 20 minutes work to replace). I'd test compression on all 4 cylinders (with plugs out and throttle open) and post the results here. If compression is fine, that'd confirm my suspicion.

Do yourself a favor, and buy a NEW gasket AND "half moon" seals. I would guess that the seals are the cause of the problem, as they leak as they get old and hard. If it is the gasket, you may be able to clean it up and use a little Yamabond #2 on it.

                        Hey Amby,

You don't need a HEAD GASKET!!! Forget craigs list. GO to www.partsnmore.com and get the half moons, and the valve cover gasket, and some Yamabond, and perhaps a few other things to get your total over $35.00, free shipping!

Great Find, but still go to the Tech Tips Forums from the MAIN FORUM PAGE, not the links in the left yellow column, and READ, READ, READ! Things like cam chain tensioning require specific procedures and can lead to damage if done incorrectly!

There's a thread I think in the MISC forum about what to look for in a neglected XS11, although yours looks rather pristine, you'll still want to know what to check out and replace, like ALL of the oils, Engine, Middle and Final Drives, bleed brakes, etc.!!
