Thanks for posting this. As an owner of one of the first production bikes, it was like a "blast from the past". I know the clutch was good, because my first XS had over 30K on it when I sold it, and the clutch was still the factory assembly. I did have the full touring kit, minus the Yamaha box. I opted for a "HD" style glass box, and painted it with a rattle can from Yamaha to match the rest of the bike. It did set me back about $4,200 with tax and lic. back in September of '77.
