prometheus had mentioned in one of the threads that salt water might not be conducive to the health of the tank (at least... that's what I recall reading... but my mind doctors the photos of my photographic memory)

I looked into this a little a year ago, though never did a tank... just playing around.
Now then... and I'm not a chemist nor metalurgist...but,
after one's tank is clean... could one not, say, make an anode out of a piece of zinc,(Or nickle) reverse the polarity, and galvanize the inside of the tank instead of using one of those coatings?
Oh, I'm trying to 'member everything I read... actually got a book from the biblio on the subject of electro-plating.
The anode is one component, but the solution is the other(for plating, I mean) a copper sulfate solution for copper plating, and such.
I have doubts about what was written in the link concerning chrome, as chrome plating is an electolosis process too, is it not.
and what's put on with an electrical charge, can be taken away by an electrical charge.
obviously, the key is just how long to run this set-up.

I have done this, and it worked to an extent. My battery charger (new) could detect faults and % battery charged among other things, so it would not work according to the instructions. I had to hook up a battery and the charger, so the charger would stay on. I hooked it up, kept an eye on it for awhile, left it over night(outside) no problems. Switched out clothes hanger in the morning, everything cool. Went to work. When I got home The electrode was laying on the ground outside of the tank? I used a shop rag with electric tape during initial setup to keep the electrodes fron touching eachother and the tank. apparently what had happened was the gas builtup in the tank and the tank sittin outside in the sun I guess got hot enogh to ignite it cause the rag and electric tape was burnt up.
So my advice on this subject would be the radiator shop idea.

I took my XStremely rusted 6.6 gal tank to the radiator shop. Was done in a couple of hours. Inside was 99.9% rust free. I lined it with caswells immediately as it was already starting to rust again.
The paint did bubble a bit in a couple of spots and there were decals that are now no good. The tank has some ripples that will be bondo'd and smoothed and it needs to be painted to match the bike (red tank, blue bike).Pat Kelly
