Another year of riding FINALLY got kicked off today, temps soared into the upper 60's giving me some time to just go out and cruise till I felt it was time to go home. Some 110 miles later I finally felt like I had made up for the lonnnnnnnnng winter months away from the bike. The new mods I did over the winter both impressed me and caused some problems. The Vetter Sting fairing was a nice feature, adding to my cafe racer style im shooting for, as well as having a windshield again made riding a bit more comfortable, On big bumps, I ran into trouble with the way I had mounted my license plate after I removed the rear fender, it kept wanting to catch the tire, I have a couple of small gashes (luckily the leakless type) to show for it. A new tire is in the works as this has seen better days anyways so I guess the trial and error part is better hashed out on old treads, than a brand new tire. I have an updated pic of the third degree, unfortunately, it was taken last week when we still had clouds and some white stuff so you'll have to bear with me there.



I say we all tip our cups/bottles/cans, anything ya got in front of ya, to another safe year between the lines.

That's a really cool photo you posted also; awesome landscape.
I managed to put 180 miles on my "other" street bike last week-end, first time out this year on a street bike. I hadn't had her out since November.
'Sure felt good to get in the saddle, in "the wind" again, didn't it?
I know I grinned/smiled most of the way!
Again, compliments on a great looking bike.

The ride was awesome, all but made up for the 5 months away from it. That picture was taken directly out my shop door at my parents house. I live about 1 mile (across land, 3 if by road) away from the big lake we have in our state, if the picture was turned more to the right, you would be able to see it.

I had my first long day yesterday. I let the tank run down to the reserve and then put in 3/4 can of seafoam. That stuff is amazing. Got rid of the small hesitation I was having.

I am STILL fighting with my rear MC maintaining pressure though I have taken it completely apart and cleaned the hell out of it and the calipers. I have to do it again I guess and ream the spooge hole real well.

I couldn't stand not riding though so I took her out and used the gears and front brake to slow and stop as much as possible.

I know what I am doing this weekend!

Sweet looking ride, Bauer! I agree w/ xsivebiker; I'm diggin' the paint. Looks like sometime tomorrow we'll be getting that warm front that let you get out riding. Hope so. Again, nice bike!

I like the look of the flames. I see thats a "Special", but what is the exhaust from? From the look of the end angle, they look like they came off a Maxum?
That has to be one of the smallest fairings I have ever seen. Looks like a windshield with a headlight protector. Looks good!

The exhaust pipes I bought off of www.mikesxs.com they are just slip ons for the factory head pipes.



The fairing was made by Vetter and is called "sting" They came as a sport package on early 80's Honda CB750s. It is nice, the only thing is the CB's had smaller front headlight so this didnt mate up perfectly. There are some small gaps in certain places, but I liked the look of it, so I can handle that.

Can (big blue one from Australia) is up to a Safe Year for all of us. I am still a few weeks away from season pending parts for tranny arriving from Andreas and a front brake rebuild (caliper rebuild, new stainless hoses from Old Bike Barn and pads) and a good cleaning.

I am in KC this week on business and jealous of all the guys I see from the windshield of my Rent A Cage out on two wheels. I did see a Harley on its side two days ago and the lucky rider being tended to by Paramedics (he was on his feet, a good sign). Be careful out there guys and gals...

Hey Baur just g ot a pass from spin dry in Bis. , changed oil turned the key, vroom sweet Ride went to hazen but had to turn around cause previous obligations Will be back nest friday 30 lets go for a jaunt? Will be away from confuser for another week, took a afternoon walk around bjc other day don't remember it being that big in 80 when I took welding class Later,Truk

Hmmmm...

I was just wondering how hard it would be to take that slash cut muffler, gently grind off the hangar, and have it re-welded further down so you could get the slashes to face down... keeping the stock look of my XJ??? These are the closest I have seen to the stock ones (Minus the rusted out holes in the bottom like mine!) That would put the spot where the hangar was up on top... not too noticeable if you are gentle. Most people just see the sides anyway.

What's STOCK about your XJ?? You've got an XS11 motor, etc.!

Why cut off the hanger, just attach an "L" bracket to it, a nice SS nut/bolt might not look any worse than a ground off tang?

Wont be in town on friday, head home for the weekends all the time, have a fiance' that lives back there.

You still in Zap, or in Bismarck now???

Ill have to look at mine, I have my angled out and down, not straight out. I think theres a way to mount them anyway you like, but Ill have to get back to you later on that.
