  • Meeting of the Minds 2008

Yep... you read it correctly... 2008...
    Mark your calendars now...
It will be the weekend before June 26th (I don't have the exact date at the moment)...
There should be no winter weather for us in North America anyway...

This will be an annual thing (also our anniversary... if we can't have an XSive birthday... then we'll have an XSive anniversary)
So mark your calendars for the next year... and the next year... and the next year... (you get the idea)

    2008

OK calendars are marked for 2008 thru 2024..... sorry but thats as far as I have already!

just 467 days 'til the next mindless meeting....... counting down maam!

That sure seems like a long way off!

Maybe we could do one in 2007.......

besides Tod might need another rebuild... he made 5 months before...... maybe hes workin backwards....... 3 months should be good for the next one, ya think?

      I'm good for it...

as far as I'm concerned... anytime anyone wants to show up.....
      May... June... July...

      August... September
(if the heat isn't so bad it turns a ride into a convection oven)

      October is taken already...

      September... November...
      (see a pattern forming here?)

I posted the times for the car shows in the Rally section... We won't schedule any bike work for those weekends...
(doesn't mean we won't do any... just won't schedule any)

Man... y'all are going to have lay off Tod... Taking away all of my fun...

Well... if Tod keeps riding like he does, there's a possibility that he may need a rebuild before the JACKSON meet... lol.
Pardon the video quality here, but I got bored and went down the mountain at Turner Falls in Oklahoma on the way home. It looks like I'm just putting along at first, but I was going 45-50... of course I couldn't keep it there for too long. Like I said, the video is crummy, but you do get to hear the carbs growl with these pod filters... one of the few really cool arguments for having them I think! lol. this is my first video post.. hope it works.

        Turner Falls Ride

On a side note... at the meeting of the minds this weekend, some of you may not have read the rally report. I arrived Friday, and after letting the motor cool, John and I had the motor out in around an hour and a half (It had been knocking again). Saturday morning when a few people arrived, we tore the motor down, replaced all the crank and rod bearings, (Thanks to John having them on hand) put the motor back together and in the bike, and went for a ride THAT same evening. Much thanks to Hobbyman, Dale_1, John, and Brent (He supervised) lol. Someone said something about wheelies later... but I don't think I remember that??

That was cool Tod! I loved riding that section of raod when we would ride to TF. The hair pin is killer! You did that while holding the camera with one hand, or did you wedge the canera into the side of the face opening? If we only had more time the other day. I would have loved to make that run through that area. I know we were only 20 or so miles away.

              Turner falls video & bike

              Todd,
Thanks for video. It worked OK!

Glad to hear your bike running so smooth.

"Brent Supervised" One of the main duties of a supervisor is to stay out of the way and let those who are working get something done. This I did. Some times the most help you can be is to get out of the way. I could have helped more, but I did not want job to take longer. (I was happy to start a couple of bolts and get a few parts or gaskets since this did seem to help.) Now that your bike is doing so well, I can share without undo worrysome meanness; The last time I put connecting rod bearings in an engine, it ran for about one minute before it started Knocking BAD.

Big difference - you had John checking numbers on crank, block, doing math, consulting the "All Knowing", getting correct size bearings, assembly lube, torque specs, tightening sequences, and understanding that Clymers manual on the first reading.

Music stand to hold book is handy shop tool rarely used.

              Happy motoring,
              Brent in Ga

Oh no.... there are still a few idiots out there who will hold a camera in one hand while riding... shifting (With no clutch.... can't understand how all those little bits get in my oil pan??) I figure.... heck... if I am gonna crash... I might as well film it right?? lol..

John posted in the rally section of how Kat MADE me come south to drink all their beer and eat all their food. I brought my own beer... and if looking for someone who ate all the food... I think you need to look just a few miles north in the Colleyville area...

The poor kid ate his weight in burgers and chicken it was so good.... and it dang near killed him.. just look!

I did have a great time. Everyone I have met on here is an amzingly nice person. Even Mark (Dale_1) who is a HUGE HUGE HUGE Jeff Gordon Fan. Go 24!!!!

He was even nice enough to let Kat use his new riding boots... here she is checking them out...

Notice the fashionable heels... He even was wearing his in-style blue nylons when he showed up (The ones he wears when cheering on Jeff Gordon) You can see them here in this picture on his arrival...

Don't worry Mark... it takes a REAL man to wear tights and cheer on someone like Gordon!

LOL... Man I crack me up still.... Just remember you asked for it okay?!? lol.. Anyone else wanna give me any crap? lol..

                            Roooooaaadddd trip!!!

I was sorry I missed the first Meeting of the Minds but sometimes relatives dont check with ya when they plan a trip.

But the forced abort of the trip still netted me a new clutch install and renewed excitement of the upcoming TeXSive spring ride.

Sounds like a excellent turnout with some major work being performed in a short period of time. Seems like I also missed out on some good eats. Well, there is always next year.

Ya know, I was doin some figurin the other day. I have been privy to more bike events since I moved to Texas than I ever did in the 30 years I lived in NM and the majority of them have involved XS11's and the super people that own 'em. Ya couple that with the lake only being 45 minutes away (vs 2-1/2 hrs) and I am really liken TX. The 3 B's, bikes, booze, boats, gotta love it! (I cleaned that up a bit to comform to the PG rating and avoid the wrath of Kat )
                            When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

june 26th? 2008? I think that is during Summerfest, here in Milwukee, which means I don't get vacation.

Figures, more than a year away and I already can't go.
I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.
