I wave and here in the South, most wave back. My XJ looks "cruiser-like" enough that half the time Harley riders don't know what their waving at anyway when they do wave!

Right after I met my wife to be, we were out with some friends having a night out on the town.

As we went past a car with two couples also, guy in my back seat has his hand out the window pointing at the other car and is laughing big time which in our "mood" got us laughing too. So I ask him what the he!! were laulfing about and he says "nothing", but there pulling over to see whats wrong with their car....

Here in Australia the Harleys dont wave back either, but there is a rule of thumb. If the harley rider has patches/colours he wont wave, if the rider is the business type weekender they will usually wave back but wont initiate the wave thru lack of riding experience and lack of balance. I find here too, that the XS seems to be in a class of its own, most harleys dont accept it to wave back cause its not a harley but then the same amount of Jap sport/tourers dont accept it either cause its not a sport bike.....hmmmmm........I leave most of both class sitting at the lights so really dont care either way.....but it is nice to get the wave back.........On a recent ride to phillip Island I rode with two harleys, one Triumph 955si(sport), and a Kawasaki ZX1200 (Naked sport).......we all waved and only got half the waves back from all passing bikes......tell you its not the bike you ride but more the riders attitude....

OK, I don't wave in town or in thick traffic, but always nod if the other bike waves in those situations, out on the road relaxed I only wave to jappos or already waving Harley/Norton/Triumph(very very rare) but NEVER inititiate waving to Harleys because waving to Harleys NEVER gets a response and all I get is a "F** you then" attitude, so never is adamantly never - unless 'they' wave first. Which is practically never

But I always like waving to those big decked out Goldwing type cruisers as they always seem happy and enjoying life, sometimes I feel guilty for not waving to dinky little insignificant trail type bikes on the highways, but don't seem to be able to initiate waving to them, but always happily wave back if they wave first, but they rarely do, probably shy and slightly embarrassed or something.

I know I need to work on that one and wave first to all dinky little bikes, as truly I'm not a snob, far from it if ya know me well, but the dinky little bike riders probably do think I'm a snob - OK then, just made a resolution - I'll always wave first to dinky little bikes.

...but... come to think of it, the times I did wave to dinky little bikes, the F***rs never seemed to wave back! So bugger it, I'm rescinding my resolution - they now still have to wave first. Even though I'm not a snob...

I try and wave as much as I can and rarely get offended if they dont wave back seems sometimes you can pick em out I always say to my wife I wonder if these guys will wave back ahhaah so it becomes kinda of a game
I also agree with GoldCoast that its more attitude than anything
as In the summer time I ride with group of harly boys and big Honda's/kaws and there all great people plus we like to do the local charity rallys and there usally all there for one thing Socializing and raising money for there causes
Cant think of a better way to spend this life!

They haven't waved back in the 37 years that I have been riding- I don't think they are going to break the habit anytime soon. Just a fact of life- like death and taxes. I always try to wave when I can, and if I don't the glad hand back its just part of the ride.
