If the engine in question is in a P/U truck, then it is most likely a 292cid, but IIRC the 292 had huge lifter covers, and this engine appears to have the smaller covers so it may be a 250.

Thanks John for restoring my doubt. It is in a truck, a custom deluxe 2x4 with auto trans. fleet side. if that means anything. Just when I start to think its a 250 too.
Anybody know where I can type in an engine code to see what it is . I got the #'s of the block. they are 00N E1190 473483.

Do tighten down evenly, and check torque specs and use em.
Makes the engineers that designed the part feel like they are competent
