...only to find out that this was not the part of town I was really looking to be in. The bars on the gas station windows were a nice touch -not used to that growing up.
HA! Yeah, I was up in North Mil one time. Stopped to buy a box of beer at some wine shed. The clerk was inside a building, inside the building. I mean, it was made out of cinder block and had a metal door, bullet proof glass, and one of those steel drawer things you put your money in. You had to talk through a little grill like at the old movie theaters. This all was built inside the store, which, of course, had the requisite iron bars on it.
Figured they had some 'issues' up there in the hood.
I feel nekkid up in that part of town, if I don't have my pal 'Sig' with me.

One day last summer I did London to the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany - 400 miles, and it rained every one of them.

My big mistake was packing all my gear in soft throw-overs without wrapping it in plastic bags first. That meant no dry clothes when I got there but worse, the gear soaked up maybe half a gallon of water in each bag - handling went off just as I entered the German forests at dusk

        Longest Ride in the Rain

Aprox. three years ago, Keith and I rode from just slightly North of Suches, GA to Cruso, NC [Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground] and it rained all the way. It was raining especially hard as we got onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at Cheerokee, NC.
Keith was on his Suzuki Cavelcade, I was on my GoldWing.
I'm estimating that we hit the rain aprox. 20 miles out of Suches, GA.
Still, that wasn't too bad; one day in the rain out of nine days on the road and 2,100 miles "trip total".
If I'm deciphering my trip notes correctly for that road trip; the distance was 211 miles that day, of which aprox. 190 were in constant rain.

Like some others, not longest in miles but the longest ride in the rain...
Copperopolis (CA) roadrace. 3 laps, 27 miles each lap. Had to take glasses off to see at the begining. Spray from other riders tires was horrible (no one uses fenders). On the first climb you had to balance power and traction or the back tire would slide out.
Back side of the course was open and flat, no shelter anywhere. Lightening and thunder and hail.
Comming back to the start/finish line was steep (45-50 MPH) downhill with lots of curves.
          I finished 10th place.
BTW, this was on a bicycle.

Shortly after getting married I went to NFLD on my (make that OUR) bike with my wife. It RAINED and SNOWED for the entire 2 week trip from Ottawa Ontario to Savage cove Newfoundland. That's the northern end of the island. When we got off the ferry in Port a Bass it was 0 degrees with an inch of snow on the ground and this was in AUGUST !!!! The distance traveled is unknown without referring to a map but it was a LONG RIDE to say the least. I would guess about 3000 KM round trip. Thanks god we had "dry rider" gear and cash for motels because the tent went into the trash after the first night LOL LOL LOL

seems like it was spring/summer 98 about two weeks after getting XCaliber...

This was her maiden real voyage ...

Total of 675 miles from Poteau, OK to Gulfport Mississippi. About 80% in pouring rain. I had my military issue Gortex rainsuit and Belleville steel-toe gortex lined boots. Full face helmet and small windshield, leather gloves of course..... The first 200 plus was so bad I couldn't run more than 50. I even had a cop flash his lights at me trying to tell me to pack it up and go home. I was on my way to report to duty, so that was a no-go. The twisties I had been looking forward to on hwys 59 88 and 270 were kinda boring in the rain. Everytime it would stop raining I would either get warm and stow the rain gear only to have to stop and put it back on. Or...... I had to stop to get a bee outta my helmet, and even once I just got fed up and stopped for lunch.

I never did get fed up and stop because of the rain though.... that military issue stuff works really well.

This past spring when Miles, Bohn, and I left the TeXSive rally and went to Big Bend .... we rode about 500 miles in the rain. 350 was all in one day.

At one point we were rolling I-10 west of Ozona. Bohn Frazier was leading at about 90 mph. We came over a rise and there were cars and water everywhere. A flash flood rushed across the interstate just minutes before we arrived and washed 6 or 8 cars off the road. The water was still about 2 or 3 inches deep when we rode through.

It's not too bad riding in the rain if you're prepared. That's why in flash flood country I always wear a life preserver!

Many miles many times. It is really tough to make camp after a day in the rain normally the motels get us those nights. Sudden hail is about the worst thing I have hit hurts like crasy.

Longest trip in rain was lower Delaware to South Carolina about 400 miles. Worst was 8 mile with 3 inches of water on ground and rain dumping so fast no one would go over 20 mph had a drilled disk air cleaner on HD kept engine running at around 3500 no carbon on pistons after that. Have fun and ride safe, love it

The furthest had to be the recent Ft Worth/Hurst gatheing of the TeXSive group. Now, on a return trip from Ruidoso to Albuquerque from the Aspencade, it rained HARD from the minute we left to the time I pulled into the garage. There were times we were down to 10-20mph and slogging thru water up to the pegs. The pucker factor came into play one time when I hit what I thought was 'bout and inch of water on the road and it turned out to be 6+ at 60mph. Can you say hydroplane? My $27 rain suit performed perfectley as did my waterproof overshoes. My buddy on his Electra Glide did not fair so good. He found out why his friend gave him a rain suit, the crotch was torn out. This was a ride in 50 degree weather. More than just his lips were blue when he got home.

That is just nuts. There comes a time I am gonna stop and wait it out. You're very lucky some one did not go down.

                              More than in dry weather!

I picked my bike up this Saturday, and I drove it approx. 450 miles home. Well, the weatherman was wrong and all but the 1st 125 miles were in the rain
