  • Snow out the wazoo...

Looking at about well over 100" of snow this week. National weather service reported 57" in Mexico NY as of yesterday evening. Got 2-3 foot yesterday and 3 feet more already this morning. I may have 6 feet more by tonight if the lake band does not move.

We made national news last 3 days Parish, Mexico, Pulaski and Oswego! Today is the first day I tried to get to work and failed, can't see it is snowing so hard, over 3 foot in the road, went 100 yards and had to back up.

Storm predicted to last until Friday night then stop for a half day and return for the weekend.

I'd ask to you to send food and porno mags but the mail has only come 1 time this week.

Dang! That is nuts. I hope you have plenty of supplies already. The good new is that all you have to do now is sit back relax and wait until transportation is possible again. I love the snow, but everything in moderation. A similar freak storm hit us when I was in 7th grade. The mail stopped coming for about a week, yet some how I was still expected to complete my paper route. I think I invented bike skiing that week.

Yikes! Even I have to say that's a lot of snow. We have just topped the 500cm mark (approx 197in), but that has been spread out since the start of November. 100in in a week has to be a bit hard to handle no matter where you are!

Geeze, Gary, you have more snow than we do here in western Colorado. Only good thing to do with snow is to ride it:

West Elk Mountains in the background. Taken from the top of Grand Mesa, Colorado on January 28th this year.

There is no snow around my place, temps in the 50s last few days.

We got 1-2 inches day before yesterday. That is enough to shut things down early around here. Must have had a sale on depends b/c every little granny was out on the road clogging up traffic driving in the left lane going 10 m.p.h. under the speed limit..... Sorry, don't mean to rant.....

                        Weird Stuff

What a lot of people don't realize, is that Gary, (66) lives just 40 miles north of me, and we get a dusting. The "magic line", is the NYS Thruway (90). I can stand in my back yard and watch huge black clouds to the north with the sun in my eyes. It’s a weird band that follows a magnetic strip of underground deposits from Rochester to Albany. We technically are the only place on earth that this happens according to Tom Huff the local weather garu. Right about at Gary's house, the elevation causes the atmosphere to dump all the crap. It’s really strange. Get a snowmobile????

Yeah, but the elevation changes are exactly what makes that area so attractive to XSives!

Gary, I hope you and Dena are doing OK?

Randy - We are OK I spent about 5 hours on the roof today and didn't even get half of it cleaned off, I am sore everwhere. I also snow blowed and shoveled a lot too. We are predicted for 12 inches on Sat, I am not looking forward to it. At least the power has stayed on most of the time (went out once so far) and we can get out. The big blowers are out tring to clear the roads. I am hopeful they will be clear by May for the rally!!

Floyd - You should have got more than a dusting today, at least in N syracuse and Clay I don't wish this stuff on any one! Sometimes the bands will get into Syracuse but usually not for long periods of time.

I took these pictures a few years ago and got one on the News in Syracuse as the weather photo of the day. It shows a lake effect band setting up over the house. Sunny on my side and Dark and snowing on the other. One side of the road can get 4 feet and the other side will get 4/10 of an inch. I should feel lucky I live in such a unique spot right?

                              Traffic jams....

I have always said that the answer to all the traffic jams in So Cal is 2 inches of snow on the roads Monday morning and the Highway patrol does not close the roads like they usually do. By the end of the day there won't be enough cars left to cause a traffic jam on Tuesday. Just a little rain almost does it. Couple of weeks of it and when it cleared up I could ride anywhere without having to worry about the cagers.

I'm from upstate NY and I know how it can get, but I'm accustomed to driving in it too.
